With a new fiancee in tow, your best bet is local. That being said, not all local jobs are created equal. You want to look for a gig that preferably pays overtime, no weekends, runs decent equipment, and won't bump you up against your 70 every week. $18/hr is that starting money with regular step increases as you go? What are the medical/retirement benefits like? Have you been to the local terminal and talked to some of the guys there?

Lots of questions, get all the answers before you hire-on anywhere. As Ben Franklin said: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The key to hourly Local work, is getting OT .$20 x 70 hrs pay. (12 hrs, 5 days, 60 hrs worked.) Not bad at all. The more per hr. the better.

yea forget the snakes, i'm from florida i shouldnt sound like such a wuss,
i'm really just loosing my mind from doing the same thing every day. i cant explain the feeling, but its like being so tired that you cant watch tv or read a book, except the feeling is 24/7
and it bothers me so much that i'm thinking of going otr, because I own plenty of toys and nothing keeps me chill anymore, and when i think of the last time i wasn't as miserable, i was on the road, spending days listening to music and relaxing, except for the times when i was in the cities getting loaded or unloaded.

I'm probably taking a local yard driver position pay is good have done the math ill be paid better than otr. My concern is how hard the transition will be? 16 years otr an now I'm gonna be home every night and off weekends how hard is it to transition to a quiet night every night no reefer running no apu. Or suddenly doing the same thing everyday? Anyone have insight to that?

Try to find a local job that pays better than that. There should be plenty of them out there. Maybe look into hauling fuel.

I make about 27.00 an hour going down the Interstate at 65 MPH and 0.41 cpm. So when you think about it, you will be doing a lot more city driving, harder work, also a daily commute and routine that you have to keep.

So you should make hourly close to what I make at least just holding a wheel and keeping it in between the lines because you are probably working harder.

How many hours a week local?ot after 40? If you go otr you’ll need a good rider policy if you want to keep her.
My vote is for local can’t beat being at home and around family.

Why do Youtube celebs like Allie Knight make it look like OTR is where the money is at?
