I have heard the stories but never had it happen to me.
Still, when coming back to the truck I check the tandem release and the fifth wheel.
Having the trailer drop or the tandems rip out are equally as bad.
A second or two taken in paranoid precaution...
I am even more paranoid being a Swift driver, since so many hate us for one reason or another - or maybe just want to film something they can post..
Swift at it again.....

Trust me when I say I may hate the company, but NOT the drivers. The drivers aren't the ones who screwed me sideways

I guess some of us have had better luck with the company.
Personally I think it has to do more with the driver managers and the terminal you work out of.
It seems the larger the terminal, the less they care about the drivers.
Phoenix is the prime example.
I have mainly worked out of Otay Mesa, Inver Grove Heights, and now Menasha.
All small terminals, and everyone is treated as family to be taken care of.FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
I mean, I was based out of Troutdale... tiny, TINY little terminal, and the entire team there was an absolute pleasure to work with, but when the bean counters in Phoenix threatened my driver manager's job in response to his fighting to keep me, there wasn't much that could be done...

Now how did he do that? OmgFerrissWheel Thanks this.

If you're an ANY place where other truckers are, ALWAYS check your fifth wheel latch ANY time you leave the trk! theres gremlins about!FerrissWheel Thanks this.

I crawl under and check my 5th wheel every morning and check the latch everytime i leave the truck and come back. And the only time my trailer is unhooked is if im putting lube on 5th wheel. Dont do drop n hook. There is no excuse for being lazy. That is litteraly the worst thing that could happen when driving is trailer comes off, no excuse to not check it

I'm at a motel in Mojave Ca. Right next to a truck stop. There's plenty of parking there. So look where this genius parks. He's idling, so I'm sure he didn't get a room. He's about sixty feet from my room and everyone else's. Sure Wish I'd Finished Training.

Call the front desk. Let them know either idling truck gets moved or you get a refund.
