Driving with a pitbull mix

    I am working on obtaining my CDL but due to my current life situation, when I start working I will need to bring my 9 year old pitbull x, along with me. I have seen tons of articles or videos online about truckers with pitbull companions, I've even read about how great they are specifically to travel with. It all seems so easy and like it's no big deal to have one with you... but what about BSL laws?

    I would love to hear from anyone who does travel with a dog, more specifically a pitbull, about any challenges you may face with crossing the border/travelling through breed restricted areas.

    I currently live in Canada but expect I will need to cross the border at some point. I also dont think I will be able to travel through Ontario with her.

    I worry this will make me very undesirable to future employers so any advice or experience you guys may have is greatly appreciated (Getting rid of her isn't an option). Naming any Canadian companies that allow pets and have no breed restriction policies would be an added bonus.

    Just trying to do my homework and make sure I'm not surprised by anything later on. Thanks in advance guys.

    Haha, good point. I've already been looking online to see what my options are for collapsible steps so she can cart her own butt in and out of the truck.

    Pitbull crossed with what? Make sure you keep shots and vaccination records with you. What are BSL laws, I'm assuming something to do with the typically maligned breeds of "vicious" dogs.

    My sister had an issue getting approved for an apartment lease with hers. She found a vet willing to issue a certificate stating he was a boxer mix. That was about 8 years ago and hasn’t had any issues since.

    Navigating Breed Specific Legislation when Traveling with Pit Bulls | PetRelocation

    This should help answer some questions. Traveling with pups can and will help alleviate some of those bored times. It does suck when they want to go out at 3am in -40 degree in Minnesota but having them along is worth it. Some places dont have much for grass areas but most have enough to suffice a 9 yr old (assuming she doesnt do much long distance running like when they are pups) No matter where you go there will always be the ppl who are going to stereotype her as vicious. To those ppl I would show a pic of my 3 pits and my 2 girls as babies together no viciousness whatsoever.

    It's always good to see a pet owner do their research on the dos and donts. Shows they are truly a pet lover. Good for you!

    Dont call it a pit bull. Call it a lab mix. My mutt is part lab and looks it until shes playing around and that big dumb pit face comes out.

    Personally I have no position however my area has laws outlawing that breed or any of it's possibilities (Mixes) I don't think it extends too much into the County but those laws exist.

    We have had pets before, and do well with them. Generally cats in the truck as they are self maintaining more or less. Large dogs such as shepards were in our history but we would not think to take it into a small truck. Its funny how a big truck becomes a small truck with something like that climbing the walls.

    Please listen to what I am saying...your dog is not a PIT or a PIT MIX. It is a boxer/lab mix, or at least that is what you were told.
    I have no idea on your question but trust me, this route will give a lot less headaches.
    It’s sad, but it is true.

    I've got no trouble being vague with her breed, she just looks so much like a pit & I worry about crossing the border/travelling through Ontario the most. I'd love to get in touch with someone who does long haul with a pittie.

    I've had this pup since I was 18. I lived in a city where she is banned, moved outside of it mostly due to this. I ended up with her because I was naive. I found her online through an ad. Seller told me she was supposed to be an olde english bulldog. Didnt realize I'd been duped until she was bigger than a bulldog, opps. I was already attached at that point. Shes so sweet. Every vet shes ever been too has marked her breed down as something shes not. Not one record of her being a pit thanks to vets not agreeing with the breed legislation bs. So I'll have no problem saying shes a boxer cross, I'm used to that. Just trying to figure out how others travel with them without issue. Have to keep her safe.

    Being vague has been duly noted.
