Hi all! My husband just started driving OTR and he has a thermoelectric fridge and a lunchbox heater (no APU on the truck). Any suggestions of things to take with him? Not much room in that little fridge. I have sandwich stuff, made some soup, and shredded bbq chicken for him to refrigerate. Packed LOTS of soups and Chef Boyardi meals, pb crackers, chips, pop tarts (he likes them untoasted), etc. I am not used to thinking of meals in this frame of mind.... so any ideas would be appreciated GREATLY!!! It's too expensive for him to stop and eat (plus it can get costly on the waistline also), so I'd like to pack most of his food for atleast 2 weeks out at a time--- without him getting totally sick of things! Thanks for any ideas, insight, suggestions... anything!

I did a google search for heater meals and found some for 4.00 each so I sent 2 cases out with hubby last time he was home. He loves them! He also has a "oven" and I sent chop suey, dintey more stew and they also make chicken and dumplings and beef and noodles, I sent whole canned chicken which is fully cooked, he put it in the cooker added some mixed veggies (canned) and said it was GREAT! I packed different veggies since he was getting sick of the truck stop stuff....chunky soups, madrian oranges, peaches, shelf stable milk for cereal.

Hubby hasnt got a fridge just a small cooler so the shelf milk is great comes in cartons the size of ajuice box throw in a couple at night ready for morning or whenever.

I also send those kool aid packets for bottled water, and gator aid, ummm of course cereal, crackers, ravioli, mircrowave mac and cheese .......if I think of more I will add it.

Uncle Bens makes the flavored rice that you can toss in a microwave at the truck stop for 90sec. cheap and filling.

I love hamburger helper. My g/f would fix up three or four of them and put 'em in those ziploc storage bins and freeze 'em until I would get back home. I'd take one into the truckstop, use their microwave and eat good and cheap for about a week on 5 or 6 containers of 'em.

Foil dinners and/or meals are also a great idea as well, and can be prepared far in advance. Just lay one on the engine manifold and 50 miles later you have a piping hot dinner! :biggrin_25525:

Nothing like a little Rotella and diesel to seal in the flavors.
