I really appreciate it! I will be diving into the run-ability issue this weekend. When its not having fuel issues it runs and sounds great!

Last night I ordered a new high low shifter and will get that installed as soon as it comes in. Next will be the rear break chambers. Once those two things are fixed I will attempt to diagnose the fuel delivery issue. So excited to get started!

This will be a long post so I am sorry in advance. Yesterday I went to diagnose the fuel issue. But first I replaced the hi-lo shifter that was leaking and preventing me from shifting. Once that air leak was fixed and it was not leaking I screwed in the screw behind the solenoid. Fired it up and let it warm up and build pressure. Once it held 120lbs of pressure I took off for a short test drive. The good news is all together the truck was running for approximately 45mins and it kept running strong. The bad news is the power wire running from the solenoid to the ignition fried taking an airline out in the dash with it… Luckily I was close to home when as the cab was filling up with smoke from the wire. I got home and dumped the clutch to shut it down, killed the batteries, and stood there for 10 min with a fire extinguisher just in case.

I will attach a few photos. Some photos of the engine as requested. And photos of the solenoid before and after the incident. I’m not sure if I was supposed to remove the power wire when I screwed the screw in, But I need a new solenoid now as the bottom post is free from the inside. There were four wires coming off the solenoid. The power to the ignition, one going up to the engine, One going down to the harness, and one that was cut and went nowhere. Any idea where that one was supposed to go?

The airline is took out is the one that goes to the left of the T for the trailer brakes in the attached picture. Now I have to figure out how to get to it and replace it.

And one last question. Do I call Cummins directly for this replacement solenoid? Or do I call Kenworth? Thanks everyone for your help. Fix one problem create 3 more lol

I bought a new solenoid and plan to swap it out and hook the new wire up to the ignition this weekend.

Last night I went to start it and it acted like the battery was low, even though the shut offs were activated before hand. I went and looked and one negative battery connector was broke and just resting up against the terminal. Could this have caused my initial issue?

I replaced the fuel solenoid over the weekend and it is back to running perfectly. Additionally I replaced the rear brake chambers as they were bad and sorted the brake lights and turn signals. My next issue is a mystery air line that has been cut that I need to diagnose. As far as I can tell every system has its proper line attached. I believe this is the trailer brake air line, because it only leaks when you are on the brakes.

Looks like a 290 Big Cam.( No after cooler) 350’s and up woulda had one. It’s hard to tell in pic but looks like has big cam followers.
The solinoid should only have one wire going to the ignition switch. (Some may have two wires if they had an optional shut-down timer.) the other cut ones were probably bypassed originals that went bad in the past. The ignition key switch in dash may be bad causing the wire to run hot or short. Rewire the solinoid to the switch with at least a 12 ga. wire.
If the old solinoid was getting to hot to the touch it was bad causing the shut-down. They don’t normally get any hotter than the air temp around them or the fuel that flows by them.
Great truck. Cabovers are nice to see again. Let the good times roll!

If you can post a pic of the cut line someone may be able to tell you where it goes.

In the pic you posted of the wires under the dash there is a red wire that I beleive it looks like Is routed through the crack were the dog house seperated from the nose. Fix that! The bounce and vibration of driving it will pinch that wire whatever it is for.
Don’t stress on that crack. That was a common thing for Kw’s to do because of the fiberglass. Back then those cabs would do it while still under warranty.
