That’s something I did want to ask, as long as I renew it as a CDL, do I have to retest?

    G13Tomcat Thanks this.

Nope. Up to the company (ies) with road testing and whatnot, but... Nope. It gets 'stale' after six months or so, but its still valid. Keep your MED CARD up to date, as well.

I am sorry about you son!

If you want to still truck and are close to Xenia, Ohio my company is hiring OTR, local, and Regional. (FFE)

My rookie year as a solo company driver I made over 50k. I have had two family emergencies on the road. One they got me a load home within 24 hours. The other time, they had me routed to a terminal and dropped off my truck and I flew home.

Good luck and again I hope your son is doing well.

you might have to go thru refresher training if you stay out too long. keep up on your DOT card as well, cuz in some states, if you let that expire, THEN YOU MUST go thru the CDL process from square one....

i'd suggest getting a job on a loading dock at some LTL company, get some fast cash, then work your way into a city job or line haul with them.

heck, there may be a yardman's job somewhere near you.

It's OK to take a break. Don't let you're medical expire on you unless you are in a state that will let you do that intrastate thing with the CDL. The job will still be here. Just remember though, the longer you stay out the harder it is to get back in.

When your home and after things have settled.matne try and spend some.time researching. I can tell you this is the best board out there..it helped me tremendously when I started researching back in 2012. Talk to some local drivers in your area. There are still good opportunities out there. You CAN find a local job if that's what.you want right out of the gate and you have an advantage because you have a CDL now with a little experience . All the best!
