Holy misinformation going on here. To lease a truck on, first you need a lease contract spelling out everything including your company is now in control of that equipment. Next you’ll need to add that truck to YOUR insurance policy for liability and cargo. Any other insurance is the responsibility of the truck owner. Truck signage will say your company and DOT number. Good luck you’re going to need it. I’d say it’s a very bad idea with your lack of knowledge

This is true. Equipment owner only needs bobtail, non truck coverage.
Now, there is nothing to stop you from back billing him for it. But needs spelled out in the lease. Depends on your agreement. Plenty companies do not back bill them.
If for any reason he manages to get his "own" trucking liability and something happens. There will be no coverage or right to deny coverage because of the equipment lease to your company.
Insurance policy follows MC. Except bobtail. When he is not under dispatch or direction of lease holder. His policy covers his tractor. -
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
