Hi blackdog

That's right. California problems don't start till 2014. Not an issue for me... I haven't run California since '99 and probably will never again. The ISX has no problem if you disable the EGR. I have had the EGR on my '05 ISX in my '06 International disabled for quite a while. I like the smoother running engine, 1 full mpg better mileage (mid 7's pump to pump), and cooler running engine. Even the oil samples look a little better across the board.

The company I worked for, got new Freightliners in December 2003. The old trucks they traded in got 6.5 to 7 mpg. The new emissions compliant engines in the new Freightliners got 5 at best, starting out. When contacted (Freightliner) and asked why these new trucks got such bad mpg, they said that, "your drivers don't know how to properly drive a truck."
Hogwash. How did we go from about 7 mpg in Freighliner trucks, to 5 in these new FL trucks?? We managed to get them up to 5.5. And, we had numerous issues with these trucks. They were always being taken out of service for severe engine problems.
In December 2008, we got International Pro-Stars. Back up to an average of 6 mpg.
Huh! And to think the drivers didn't know how to drive. The mechanics told us, those FL got such bad fuel mileage because of their emission compliant engines. And we were lucky to see what little improvement we got.
