The cooler the better. If you want to keep corn stored in a grain bin it should be around 40°F. Insect infestation and mold growth are going to flourish in the 70°F. to 90°F. In the summer months you try to run fans at night to keep grain cool.

 

For storage 34 degrees would probably be great? There is a temperature and moisture thing going on. If the moisture is low temperature is not as much of a concern. When grain in storage starts creating its own heat it is normally a high moisture and or low air flow area.
In a big bins like his meters hang off the ceiling. They are at all different levels and areas. The letter and numbers identify the area of the sensor.

 

In the larger bins we have 5 cables. One in the center and 4 towards the outside. Here is a pic of how there installed in this particular bin.

Id say the cables are 40ft and sensors every 5ft.

 

You bet. Seems no matter what dumb sheet you pulled that day out in the world, you come home to someone that's happy to see ya.. Bowl of food, some table scraps, walk, belly rub or play time you've got a pal for life!!

 

Yup if you got high moisture in the bin you want to keep cool as much as possible. You have to be aware that the bin works as a solar collector. This heats the grain to temperatures exceeding outside temperatures mainly on the south side of the bin and on the top.

Guys are going to have to pay attention this year because the corn is immature and won’t last as long as mature corn in storage.

 

LoL, No I'm here to learn, seriously. I read or watch everything everybody posts or links in #5. I love all types of machines & trucks. Really enjoy this area of the form. I'm a townie, worked on a tree farm ( palm mostly) in Ellenton FL after high school from 18-21. That's my extent of agriculture, so its almost all new for me..

But they also have a cool setup where you might get to their Wisconsin yard and you have a yard crew help you put together a load on your trailer and help you tarp it also.
