Mentor/Training "Rest Stops"

Some companies use trainees as low-paid team drivers and some companies use trainers to train new drivers. Make sure you only work at the latter companies. You are NOT going to change ANY company that hires you. This means it is YOUR JOB to select the right trucking company to work for. To achieve this outcome you must insist and only work for a company that puts you in contact with drivers and trainers so you can speak to them about the job, after you get assigned your own truck, and speak to trainers about the training environment. Do not UNDERESTIMATE the time requirements and then surprise them with the truth.

Once you get your own truck all of the living issues are MUCH easier, but they depend on you preparing for them or accomplishing them as appropriate. That brief period with the trainer was the hardest part for me in trucking. It wasn't terrible. I had a good trainer, but it was hard. Mostly, my issue was NEVER being able to sleep in a moving truck for more than a few minutes. Some people have little trouble sleeping in the truck while it moves and some people have ONLY trouble sleeping in a moving truck. Just get through it and the job gets better. But it's your job to make it better.

 

Your trainer probably snores also. It's almost certain.

 

If you are going to be taking imodiumike that idk if you have yet or not but speak to your doctor about long term use of it and if it can impact your health

As long as you have choices pick a company that doesn’t have such a long training period.

 

You can just stop on the side of the road somewhere and handle your business.

I have had several partners with sensitive stomachs and occassionally when they have to go, they have minutes only and its coming.

Theres a highway in Missouri thats really bad. I think its 69, or 65? Long stretch of nowhere to pull over or park. Like maybe 4 hours. That one will get you. That stretch had the steepest upgrade I have traversed so far. Kind of wrapped around the side of a mountain.

 

I-10 in the southwest desert is like that too. It got me one day while with my trainer.

 

Ive Trained/ Mentored in the past, and im currently Training Flatbed students (again.)

If you even have a Mentor worth having it won't be an issue, just tell them upfront about your medical situation and if they aint willing to work with you on it you don't need them.
