How does there student program work?? The pay, miles, running area, and fuel stops??
-
students are paid salary while with a trainer not sure what it is though. you dont get paid by the mile until you are in your own truck. millis runs mainly east of the mississippi river with runs to texas and a few out to california. fuel stops are the pilots and ta that are not francised stores.
jdsgungho Thanks this. -
How are the miles going spanky? also was wondering how often is payday, do you know anything about the insurance that millis offers for a husband and wife?
Then as a student with my trainer how often would i be paid and are you considered a millis employee once you start training or not until you get your own truck?
Im leaving next next sunday and cant wait to get started, do you think if a driver stays out 14 to 21 days that it helps to get higher weekly miles versus going home weekly?
I talked to a driver last week who said there were so many miles available you could basically write your own check and that he was very happy with how millis treated him, of course he has also been here 18 years.
He was doing regional out of streator il and said, if there was openings that a student could be placed there as well.
One thing i liked, is that he said millis lets you pretty much be your own boss and doesnt try to hold your hand/baby sit 24/7.
Again this could all be due to his seniority, but i enjoyed hearing what a happy driver had to say nonetheless

miles are holding steady still 2800 to 3500 miles a week. we get paid weekly depending if you are local, regional, or otr depends on what day you get paid. as a student you will get paid for every seven days you work not the actual work week. the longer you stay out the better your checks will be and the better chance you have at getting longer runs. streator is one of the easier regionals to get on since they have a lot of trucks that run that so you could get put on that right of way if there is a spot open. he was right millis does let you run how you want for the most part only time they will say something is when you get in the northeast around the new york and pa turnpikes they like you to stay off them as much as possible. as for your insuranc ei am not sure how much that will cost you for family.

Thanks spanky, and actually he did mention they wont pay for tolls on the on the portions tolls.
I know i have run to NH in my 4 wheeler and some of those states were 30 bucks from one end to the other, i could only imagine what a tractor trailer might cost multiplied by 700 something trucks!
Anyways your insights are very much appreciated, I truly am looking forward to being part of the millis team .
I already arranged for parking when i get my own truck and hometime, there is a tow yard about 3 minutes from my house that will rent me a spot for 100 bucks a month.
I thought that sounded fair, anyone else pay to park during hometime?
I have plenty of room to park on the side of my house , but residential restrictions prohibit parking of a commercial vehicle!
Maybe some day ill find me 2-3 acres in the boonies , yeeehaaaa
Thanks again spanky! -
as far as the tolls go you can run them they will just give you a good chewing out over it if they catch you doing it. they will pay them but if you keep doing it after they tell you not they will start taking it out of your check. a 100 dollars to park kind of sounds expensive unless it will be locked in a secured lot where nobody will have access to it.

I agree a hundred bucks a month is highway robbery! I wouldnt pay a dime! If you want the Illinois regional you'll have to get in line. Theres a list of drivers waiting for it. So get your name on the list right away.jdsgungho Thanks this.

I want OTR for starters anyway, but will put my name on the list anyways.
i keep looking for places to park , but everyone seems to have the same number in mind ( 100 bucks) any suggestions. does anyone know what T/a or pilot charges or if they let you park for a few days ?
I know i have time to figure this out , but i like to be prepared as well
