Thank you for your input – I agree that the world is changing rapidly. I too feel that human rights must not be forgotten as the world continues to embrace technology-based companies such as Amazon.
Your post made me think of technologies that have changed the world and sometimes taken jobs from hard-working people.
Examples:
o Uber/Lyft – impact: dispatchers, taxi company mechanics, drivers, etc.
o Netfix – impact: workers in DVD factories, video store employees, ect.
o Online tax preparation – impact: Tax Preparers and Receptionists
o Speed Pass Toll Booths (ANPR cameras) – impact: toll booth collectors
o Self-Checkouts: impact: cashiers and baggers
o Self Service Gas Stations – impact: full-service gas station attendants
The list could go on… My intent is not to make you defensive or to “win” the discussion so please do not perceive it that way. I am only bringing light to technologies that have impacted the workers and are embraced by millions of people.
I have worked in retail (field and corporate) my entire professional life. Without fail, there is always a customer shopping on a holiday (i.e. Thanksgiving, Easter, NYE) who says, “I think it is terrible that they make you work on holidays”. The irony is that if the customers would not shop, the stores would reevaluate the need to be open. That said, I appreciate your stance against Amazon and most likely you are standing in your beliefs by not patronizing Amazon. -
I go to Amazon centers for my job. They have been getting new Amazon day cabs shipped in, not sure when they will start hiring local drivers.

Relay App in the app store. Can haul Amazon loads you bid on and win. As few or as many as you like.
Amazon does have some semi drivers on their "TOM/Tommy" teams.
Amazon is getting better with driver appreciation IMHO. -
If the telephone companies hadn't figured out how to do away with telephone operators in favor of mechanical switches, giving us direct-dial phone calls, the country would not have enough women to do the job of phone operator by about 1950 or 1960.
You cannot stop technology and you cannot freeze society or the economy in amber at the time and place that works for one group. All you can do is use or not use the products and influence the economy. The combined force of consumers making choices is far far more powerful than all of the unions or the federal govt. -
