Yep. Zero personal responsibility. One of the many reasons I could never own a company.

I don’t possess the seemingly required tolerance for stupidity and laziness to be in any sort of management position.

I want to reply to this for one reason and the reason is, this is a teaching moment.
    A) good drivers know their limitations and would Get Out And Look.
    B) admittedly a small lot and dark. You didn't see the headlights on said bobtail?
    C) admittedly a small lot and dark. You didn't see said bobtail pull up behind you? Lights? Peripheral vision?
    D) B+C= no awareness as to what is going on around you.

    You made a mistake,that's fine.
Don't get on here whining and telling us how good you are and how you are concerned about how much the boss is going to charge you and if it's too much you'll quite.
Get on the phone with dealerships, price the parts and labor so you have an idea of the cost.
Man up and have him take it out at $100.00 a week until it is paid off, then leave for greener pastures.
Show some appreciation for him not reporting it.
As far as being "perfect" I am responsible for my actions.

Badmon, dunchues, kylefitzy and 4 others Thank this.

I do not possess enough Corporate decorated speech words or the desire to show competence that others failed at various things. Finally I suspect its way easier to run a day care with little children demanding milk and cookies all day than to tend to a herd of needy people hanging about the office.

Or the temperance to soothe angry customers waiting on my mutinous late drivers whipped by a apathetic group of dispatchers backed by a even less motivated shop.

And I feel like i need to stash a warehouse of money to pay the Lawman all over the place day and night for everything. Great and small. Inspection this, fix it that, broken truck there and so on.

Nah, I would not last 6 months as a Company Owner. The docs would have me on versed and a ocean of valium long before that time period is up.

There have been several people who did pretty good in the really small companies in my time (Say less than 10 trucks) and they do this by discarding anything that does not really matter today. /tease

Thanks but $100 a week is going to take a long time until it is fully paid off. I used to pull vans and wanted to try live bottoms but after a few months, I realized I wanted to go back to pulling vans because I didn’t like the live bottom much then this incident occurred. I don’t intend on leaving him without paying something at least cus that would be bad and I wouldn’t even have a peace of mind if I did that. I’m willing to pay about 3 to $4000 but it seems like he’s purposely delaying in fixing it cus he knows I would quit right after paying for the damage.

Owning a small company isn't really all that hard if you don't let it be. Handling people is the easy part if you learn to pick your battles.
Choose your people carefully, pay them well, treat them right, give them decent equipment, and don't ever lie to them. They'll generally stay with you and make money for you.
Remember, a company usually gets the kind of drivers it deserves.

Yesterday I couldn’t get an answer to a simple question about a weekend run, for political reasons I’m sure. Office politics that is....

I was told what would have been today’s interline run was a no go. I asked if someone was going to run it yesterday. Answering yes to that would’ve led me to demand to know why my dispatcher wants me to go up there to pick up outbound freight after my run, which would be incredibly stupid if a dedicated load is going there anyway. Answering no would have me demand to know who else would be running it since I was the only class A driver to put his name on the Saturday work list, and they know I’d raise Hell if somebody else got it.

Why can’t people put as much effort into an efficient operation as they put into lying and playing games?

Thank you for being responsive in a positive way. The $100.00 was a starting point since I don't know your money situation .
His deductible is probably a $1000.00.
Call and price the parts and labor so he can't put the root to you.
Have a good day and becareful .
