the short well is going to hurt you trying to haul weight as a 6 axle.

    cke Thanks this.

That's my other concern. Even if the load fits in 24ft I have no room to move weight around.

The short well won’t allow you to move the weight far enough back. The if you were a 7 axle the well would hurt slightly less in that you could scale the weight easier but gives you very little room to load anything other than excavators or dozers. Wheel loafers will be a challenge as they are typically longer.

I wouldn’t get less than 26’ for sure.

One of my guys started about a year and half ago with a 29’ well hydraulic 40 ton trailer and that was just about the most flexible- he ran his first year as a 7 axle and could scale 83k.

that is the trailer I would be looking for. It was a Fontaine 2 axle with a flip

Yea I dont have a 4 axle puller, so I would be limited to 70-73k anyway.. I'm hoping my company comes through. That would put me in a 2014 XL45 extendable 3 axle.

    cke Thanks this.

Those extendable trailer are heavy. We have three axle Fontaine magnitude that are expendable with 30ish foot of deck. Depending on what dunnage I take I'm fifty-five thousand pounds empty. Just something to keep in mind with an extendable.

I have one too, just haven’t weighed it yet, guessing it is around 30k

I'd be willing to make that trade for the flexibility of a 30-50ft deck.

Here it is with a little over a 100k on the deck. It is modular and the deck has a ton of shim in it.

Cat sdp, nikmirbre, cke and 2 others Thank this.

I'd really love to get into one, but it may not be in my price range at the moment
