When I bought my new to me 2008 Cascadia with a 14L Series 60 Detroit, I noticed how loud it was. Even the Cat C15 I once used for a day was quieter than my Series 60. The engine isn't just load (80 dB on the highway as per the sound meter on my Smartphone), it makes this irregular thumping noise. The closest sound I can describe is the sound of a freight train going up a hill. The engine was just inframed but the injectors, turbo and all of the other accessories aren't new and still have 800,000 miles on them. Any ideas what this could be?
The other thing bugging me is that the fuel mileage is 6.9 MPG hand calculated, towing a Uhaul trailer and my SUV, maybe 8,500 lbs tops. Now I'm worried that when pulling loads with this truck, my mileage will drop to 6 MPG or less. I won't make any money with this truck.
What to do?
Detroit Series 60 sounds like a freight train ! PLUS, I'm only getting 7 MPG bobtailing !!

I have 1.2 on my 06 and have replaced all injectors at least once, have it checked. I’m sure the harness is shot at the very least.

Check if your manifold leaking? Did an in frame and didnt change injectors? How about the head, was it resurfaced, rebuilt, or replaced?
