How is what you're complaining about any different from what you're doing now?

You could have started your poll and had this discussion without outing TMC on a public forum.

Right or wrong, what you say they're doing is in-house, yet now you're here trying to shame them for the whole world to see.

Where do some of you guys come up with this stuff? 1000 upon 1000's of drivers/companies have level 1 inspections done throughout the year with no violations discovered...

99% would fail according to you is absurd.

Should go both ways! But if it’s an isolated incident, then I don’t think the company should be shaming the driver, no ones perfect, but if it’s a ongoing problem with the driver, then I say! Put it out there!and if the company is doing shady things! That should also be put out there for all to see

I’ve spoken with a few DOT officers. They’ve admitted to me that just because you get a pass doesn’t necessarily mean you really passed. Some just let you slide on some stuff.

If you belong to a large fleet, you probably don’t have to worry much about level 1 inspections as was the case with me.

If I have made a mistake or screwed up in some way I will stand up, own it, take my whippin' and my hard won education and move forward. But as a grown man I will never allow anyone to diminish my dignity or self worth by way of public humiliation. Parents of small children may chose to do this, (??) but as an accomplished adult I am sufficiently principled that peer pressure no longer has an effect.

Public shaming of employees is a negative - reinforcement disciplinary technique that is used by people in management who view the population at large as inferior to themselves; the uneducated, uncouth masses so to speak.

Managers who employ positive- reinforcement disciplinary techniques tend to view the population at large as at least equal to themselves; and because most people see themselves as being good, they view others as being good also. They also recognize that just because they may hold a position higher up the corporate ladder it does not make them a superior person. And the idea of publicly shaming other employees would be shameful to them.

So, In this case TMC management somehow feels sufficiently smug and superior to denigrate and embarrass their front line employees, rather than do the hard work of remedial training, providing better support and providing solutions to avoid problems in the first place.

If ALL else fails then counsel the specific employee privately, with dignity.

If management thinks public shaming is an effective technique to deter errors and mistakes they should use it on the office staff as well. From the board of directors on down through the CEO, managers, dispatchers etc. How long would it take for morale to take a dive, for the humiliation to exceed the worth of the salary. How long before all the desks are empty and the phones silent..................
......................,,..................... If management wants a more effective workforce then it needs to provide more effective tools, solutions, support and procedures.

On the days I unload I do. I have 60-90 minutes to kill and I already have my coveralls on. Most days I unload at some point, so while it may not be first thing in the morning I’ll crawl around it sometime. I will admit that Friday afternoon was the last time I’ve given it a thorough once over, but I’m unloading 7am in the morning so I’ll do it then.

I’m not saying this is you, just a general thought. I’ve never understood the mentality of just running it until something needs fixed. I’ve found if you catch stuff early and take care of it then it costs less in the long run. Especially for me if I can call and have whatever I need waiting for me when I get back to our shop because then I’m only paying $70 an hour for labor for my repairs.

Unless it’s changed in recent years TMC went the extra mile on preventive maintenance . This sounds like a different form of keeping their record good is all.. If their issues improve a bunch it’s hard to blame them for it.

You’re already starting off on the wrong foot, but at least you’re being honest. Let me ask you. Would you really want your motor carrier to be like TMC? I’d be all for it if we, the drivers, can also evaluate management and post their performance, or lack of, for all to see.

If what TMC is doing is ok then whats the big deal. If your not guilty then why run from the light. This was just to get opinion not condemn anyone. I stated earlier that I have no opinion on this.
