1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

What is everyones thoughts on the followimg decsionn I need to make.

I have been accepted into a techinical college cdl program starting sept 1 and finishing nov 1. I am considering taking the class that starts nov 2 because the economy should be better in 1st qtr 2010 and companies may be hiring verses 4qtr of 2009. Please share your experiences with me regarding this decsion.

also, is there a time frame once you have your license that you need to be employed or you need to take a refresher course.

    very appreciated any feedback.

    Hey Mike,
My wife and I are enrolled to attend in September, finishing up the first of December. We all know things slow down after the first of the year, so it's likely to be the worst time since the depression to start out. Our idea is that things will be picking back up by next summer, so for us we need to be in place when things start booming.

Her mother passed away in the spring after a long battle (wife is a only child)and our son finished high school in June and is going into the NAVY in October. Things have just worked out for us to do this. Our decision really has more to do with timing and being free to do as we please. If we don't start now, then when? We are going to make this work.

Ya, late fall freight slows down, especially those dealing with construction such as flatbed, heavy haul, etc. Usually doesn't pick up until Marchish. Reefer companies are hit the least, as are gas haulers.

Either way, yer gonna be looking for a company in the middle of it. And this winter is gonna be an ugly one for freight, the way the summer has been going, from what I've been reading and hearing.
