We have one Level 4 lab under Fort Detrick in Frederick Maryland at the army base there. Incidentally during the USSR years they handled the hotline as well. Our State school from time to time has a hell of a nuclear drill. Not that it matters much in the end. Under some of the buildings are underground chambers that was at one time proof against nuclear. They are probably locked today for obvious reasons. If the Russian Sarmat was deployed vs Ft Detrick, the fireball will reach almost to the interstate and inflict lethal burns up to 45 miles so it does not matter if you were here or there. Particualrly with Raven Rock, Ritchie and Camp David as targets in the area as well. (Richie was closed when it was found the rock above is insufficient)

If I had a choice it would be the black death from Europe. We apparently possess those pathogens and frankly you would have a Nation of people unable to bury those dropping dead all around them waiting their turn as their lymph nodes burn out. The BD swept Europe and reduced the human population enough so that it would need quite a bit of procreation to restore the human race as it were.

 

wow... we had same nuclear drills in our schools and universities. During school hours they would turn on siren and they would say USA and NATO is attacking. That was during Brejnev. We were laughing, teachers won't pay attention on instructions and instructors would get mad. They would see people don't believe it. Soviet Republics were so different. We would not accept Americans as enemies. Woodrow Wilson was our hero. Our enemy was Turkey. Soon they changed everything and after siren they would say earthquake will happen or Turkey will attack..
I have read about BD a lot. Some researchers say that if BD will happen again it will not take many lifes. I know during 13th century outbreak it took half of Europe population. Looks like Yersinia pestis is controllable by antibiotics today.
Siberian ulcer is dangerous. If aggressive treatment will be used on patients 55% of them will survive. Without treatment 10% of patients will survive.
