I used it once because I was caught in 81 in southwest VA in a snow storm in like 2013 or something. The #### was at a crawl and it took me 3 hours to cover like 35 miles to get to the 101

NEVER park on the "get off ramp" unless you are broke down.
That is the deceleration lane where traffic is trying to go from highway speeds to a stop.
You are more likely to cause a rear end collision there.

"Get on ramps" are where traffic has control of acceleration and are okay if you need them.

Check laws as to whether you might be hassled over parking on the ON RAMP.

I stayed on 74 E. exit 3 on ramp in Ohio right before Cincinnati last night out of necessity. The rest area was closed and I checked three truck stops. The receiver amazon said i couldnt stay there. There actually arent any no parking signs there as of now. I didn’t have a choice the receiver reschedule my appointment we had a truck breakdown and I took the load from him I don’t use on-ramp so much anymore because of how many states are fighting it but I had a cop beat on my door last night and my window with metal flashlight. put a strobe light in through a crack on my curtain I’m talking 45 minutes I’m tired as hell right now I still had 14 hour clock remaining so When he left I got up and drove to the receiver and I’m parked in the driveway where it says no parking allowed but man I got to say this was probably one of the worst nights in trucking that I’ve ever had. Be warned i guess. I’m going to go work for a company that has terminals everywhere so at least I have a safe place to park I think the days of wondering the US working for a small company are over for me.

Just a little strobe? Ha... thats nothing.

Ive had the N Bradford Police bring up cruisers fitted with floods. Aim them through the sleeper blanket. I had that one coming having been on the street next to the old 76 there. They were good about but I was dead. Took about 12 of them a hour to get me going, nightsticks and all.

I usually opened either the vent or side window of sleeper top and said "YES?"

Officer will make his position known really fast. Tell him you need a minute and be right there as if you were answering your front door a sec.

That gives you a chance to throw something on or shake off the sleep. Its not always good to just flop to the drivers seat and hiss at the person who has to unsee what cannot be.

    10 Years experience here...
    2011-2021
In Most states parking on the shoulder on ramp or off ramp is illegal and you can get a parking ticket. There are a lot of truckers that will say it's based on state to state, but in reality it's actually based on city-by-city. Remember what I'm about to tell you and it will save you from getting Parking tickets.
    The secret is....
If you do decide to park on a shoulder of on and off ramp DONT if it's in a city even small town.
Best way to not get caught is outside city limits. The plains no man's land.
There are small highways that cross over the highways that ARNT within a city/town.
These are the best shoulders to park on.
BUT........ make sure it isnt close to a DOT inspection station or weight station within 60 miles or your likely to get a ticket.
If the shoulder isnt part of a town/city... no one will be there in the morning to bang on your door or to stick you with a ticket.
Unless, state trooper catches you,but that's very unlikely.
Just make sure by 6Am you tear ### and leave. If your on a Elog..... better do your split and go.
Or is be pulling out the dot triangles then popping your hood.
If a car hits your trailer and gets decapitated your screwed. Better have triangles out before a impact to be safe. Also.....
This is why its safer to park on a on ramp not offramp.
    Here's another talking point.
Allot of city's will make shoulders wider by adding broken rocks next to the concrete on purpose. They do this to generate money by making it look a parking spot. In reality it's a boobietrap....
A Honeyspot to help generate City Revenue.
Best wait to know is there wont be any signs saying no parking. And the rocks look fresh and new. Like a trap.
Same reason they dont wake you up to knock on your door. They dont want the ticket going to you. They want the ticket being the company's because it will be more money when its unpaid and it racks up interest late fees.
If you have no place to park .....
Just park in a big lot. Even if it says no semi parking.
They wont tow you. They will only knock on your door and ask you to leave.
Dont ignore them when they knock.
If you ignore and they get the police they you wi get a ticket for trespassing. If a cop is called there's always gonna be a ticket. If you cant move cause of ELD... just do personal convience.PC
Cops cant give you parking tickets even if you park in a lot that says no semis parking. They have to get permission by owner. Or if they have a contract then that is permission. Then you get a ticket.
Cops cant give you a parking ticket even if your parked crooked on private property. Is why it's best to just have the business ask you to leave.
The government says it's not thier problem to provide us parking. Yet............... . . .
They want us to figure it out. It's our problem not theirs.
If tomorrow if every truck stop decided to just stop truck parking..... then where the hell are all these trucks gonna park.

Government answer: not out problem still.
Soon there will be no free parking. 100%all reserve. With security beating on your door if you dont pay.
Company's wont pay it. Brokers wont.... company drivers will have to pay it without a reimbursement.
Biden took the semi truck parking crises out the law budget Bill for 2021.
This is why allot of people are getting off the road.

They brought in all these automatics and pretty much just handed out free CDLs and congested the trucking industry. Now as rookies come in..
    The experts retire.

Where do I start? Lots of bad information in here. Not wrong on its face, just not worded correctly. There are some states that grant a property owner the right to give Cops police powers on their property without the owner or manager calling them. Careful with anything that starts with "cops can't ----"! In many places where there is large retail parking, you will find some trucks parked. I have parked many times in such parking. What drivers must be alert to are situations where either the property owner has granted OR a local ordinance grants Cops the authority to ORDER you to vacate the property. Depending on how much you piss off the cop you might find yourself with both a trespassing charge AND a Tow bill if you try to bully said cop with that "federal" HOS silliness!

You did the same thing on that "they won't tow you" comment! Yes, you will be asked to leave, and if you comply they won't tow. As I said in a comment made yesterday, in almost every situation when a tow has been requested a cop is involved. At this point, a request to leave that gets ignored WILL in most situations get YOU TOWED among other things!

Keep it simple. Don't park on them. Park it legal.
