The schools arent going to tell anyone that there arent that many jobs out there right now. If they told the truth they would be out of buisness too. Who would pay them a couple thousand dollors to still be without work. Another thing I dont understand is why there are all these companies saying they need drivers but then when you contact them they say they arent. Are they posting these ads to help the schools out or what.

I think it's to ensure a large pool of student drivers when the economy picks up and there's more freight. But that's a personal opinion.

THINK
It is funny that we all forget the time how we all starting as a new driver.
At least, this people doing good thing learning new skill, instead of collecting goverment checks like you know whom!
Lets give the newbees a break at least they dont leech off of the tax money.
Most of them I bet they will like to have their old job back.
At least we have ours and able to feed the family. God Blesstruckerwannab and 73 FJ40 Thank this. -
I am not usually bothered too much by what people have to say about me but it really pisses me off to see everybody and his brother talking about how stupid, lazy, unreliable, etc that newbies such as myself are supposed to be, I have no doubt that there are plenty out there who deserve your criticism but I am also sure that there are others like me who are willing and able to do an honest day's work.
There is also a lot that I don't know about driving a truck or trucking in general but I do know that I am NOT stupid or lazy or unreliable or whatever your favorite word is! It is offensive to me that you all talk about me and others like me as if you have never been newbies yourselves! Give us a chance to prove ourselves before you pass judgement. -
I'm sorry you got offended. But bear in mind that those of us who have been out there have watched numerous new drivers up and quit, sometimes before they even finish up on their training. I know I'm not the only driver here who has had to recover a load because a newly graduated student couldn't or wouldn't finish their first solo load. I've had to give up hard fought for hometime to finish a rookies load because he couldn't cut it as a driver, and took off for home without warning. And I understand that truckng isn't for everyone. We just wish more people would spend some time doing some indepth research before jumping in. The only field that comes close to trucking is active military, and they put up with crap we wouldn't dream of tolerating!

I understand the frustration you are talking about but couldn't that be said for any occupation? I am not trying to minimize the impact of their failures but isn't it rather unreasonable to judge all newbies based on the shortcomings of the bad ones?
-
It is unreasonable. It's also human nature. We're frustrated, we're angry, and we're scared. We are seeing more and more experienced driver getting shoved out of their jobs, and getting replaced by the newbies. We are watching an industry thought to be recession-proof (or at least advertised as such) collapse around our ears. We're watching our freight fade, and our ability to take care of our families fade right along with it. And we're watching newbies go into a field that is growing more dangerous every day due to the lack of experienced drivers to make sure you guys and gals get the opportunity to learn the safest way to do this job. So sometimes all this frustration and anger gets directed at you guys and gals. That's human nature. We understand you are entering a completely new career, and are trying to steer you right. Just please bear all this in mind, and show us a little patience, please.73 FJ40 Thanks this. -
I can't speak for anyone else but I am not trying to take anybody's job and I am sorry that there are companies that are trying to replace you with newbies like me but please understand that I need to be able to feed my family too. I also appreciate the fact that for the most part many of the things said here are actually for my benefit. With that being said, I would also ask that you please show newbies such as myself a little patience as we try to heed your advice and follow your guidance.
Thank you for all you do and stay safe out there. -
I understand what you're saying, newbie67. Things are tough for everybody these days. I wish you the best of luck in your new career, and will always offer advice whether asked for or not, haha. Oh, and we (or at least I) don't blame the new guys and gals coming in. That particular package of guilt falls directly on the heads of the companies.Ducks Thanks this.
