I would steer clear of that gig as you would have to return to Westfield, MA everyday. You'd have to leave Westfield at maybe 2-3am to beat the traffic getting into NYC from CT. And you'd have to be back in CT by at least 12-1pm going back up because the traffic gets crazy in the afternoon as well. All after dealing with the 278.495, and 95. I run the 5 Boroughs everyday in a flatbed. It requires alot of patience and understanding of no one will let you through because they have to go.

Forget it. CT routinely screws up 95 with a rush hour wreck. And that would be that until tomorrow.
You could not offer me a thousand dollars a day to put up with what NYC does routinely. I don't mind it too much myself but it can get really bad some days.Western flyer Thanks this. -
Multi stop grocery store deliveries in the city, over head obstructions from the El, inconsistent schedule, not all stops have a dock so you're touching freight regularly. Then add in the traffic -14 hour days everyday.

I work for coke in NYC delivering in 45ft and 48ft trailers every day, the only thing you have to be careful with is the low train tracks and bridges
Brettj3876 and McUzi Thank this. -
I used to work for willow run. 8 stop peddle around the 5 boroughs with a 48 and no lift gate or pallet jack. Fun times, then dead head back to BinghamtonBigDog Trucker, bzinger and McUzi Thank this.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it fellas. My main objective to find a local (Or semi local) LTL job and keep making what I’m making now doing food service. Breaking down 15-16 pallets of boxed food and running it out on hand trucks 5-6 days a week is rough. And local LTL jobs here in S. Florida pay very low. $900 - $1000 gross is the average down here. The cost of living in these parts is definitely not cheap either. So when I see jobs elsewhere offering $25 - $30/hr to start, it gets me thinking.

The problem with Florida is that everyone wants to live there, so it drives down wages. You don’t have to go to NYC to make $25/hr in foodservice. I was making over $26/hr at US Foods in the midwest last year. Now I’m in the same location but with an LTL where pay starts at $23/hr and 56cpm, topping out at $30/hr and 69cpm in 3 years.KullenTrucking Thanks this.
