Securing a bobtail tractor

I haven’t hauled anything bigger the one ton pickup’s but I always chain the axles down in a X pattern and just let the body do its thing. Im guessing the same for your truck.

 

Yeah, chain the axles cross pattern, let the suspension do it's job.

 

Only other thing is make sure the mechanical cab latches are latched well.
Especially if you are hauling it backwards.
Oh yea one more thing.
Block off the exhaust with duct tape so the turbo doesn’t turn and get ruined.

 

Are they the type that are activated with a mechanical handle or the ones that hydraulically release as you pump up the cab lift cylinders?

 

I hauled farm equipment when I was younger. I never covered the exhaust. That all changed after I hauled a VERY nice International 1066 tractor across the PA turnpike at 75 mph. I get to the customer, drive it off the trailer, and leave. He called an hour later and said the turbo locked up. Blamed it on me not covering the exhaust.

I don't know if I had anything to do with it, but after that I always covered anything with a turbo.

 

This is how I chain a tractor.
Be sure to short chain any air ride axles to keep from damaging bags when rolling it up on a RGN.
You can chain both axles and I protect the wheels with a strip of belting.

 

Chain, as said before.
I throw a strap or chain over the frame behind cab. Just snug it down.
To keep the cab from bouncing.
