Just sort of browsing ... and wondering, Old guy here, 40 years experience, no accidents, mostly retired in 2017, pulled reefers for last ten, mostly produce, apples, potatoes, onions to California, Lettuce from Salinas to Seattle and Portland. Home every weekend. I live near Portland and still hear the Jakes at night... Is there a currency issue?
I drive dump trucks for my buddy, when he gets in a bind, but it's not the same.
I know how to get the job done productively, legal and on time. I think I retired, because I could ... and they were finally done buying special manual trucks for me, after having switched to auto shifts. (They bought two more for me and another old guy)
I ran the 97 for decades every week, summer or winter and don't feel I have the same control with an auto shift, hence my requirement for a manual. That would be non negotiable.
I did pull flats for years, but think I'm too old to be tarping in the wind, etc. However, I also have extensive experience pulling lowboys and know how to load any kind of construction equipment and tie it down, oversize or not. Still have a giant key ring that will start every make and model, from Caterpillar to John Deere and all the others. If that's something you guys do.
I'd prefer to be home every week and to have the option of taking unpaid leave when it's convenient for all involved, but could easily be out for two or three weeks when nothing pressing is going on at home.
Please advise and be safe out there

As for the home weekly, I'll honestly say upfront that we wouldn't be able to consistently do that at this point in time; we'd love to, but wont make a promise that can't be kept. It would be 2-3 weeks on average but the opportunity for home time sooner than that would be there just depending on where you're operating at the time.
Unpaid leave is a grey area discussion in a pre-hire process for me. There's definitely no problem in taking it when convenient for both sides as you mentioned, but once a driver is here and rolling, then we can cross that discussion more in depth based on how they're doing performance-wise.
I hope that clears up your original questions, feel free to get back to me with anything else!Jedi Knight Thanks this. -
I reread you original post ... any dry van opportunities?
-
Dry van in 75605? Dog rides along. Like to be home every 2 weeks, but that is flexible.
