Hey, I am new to the Truckers Report website, and also new to the trucking industry. I am 17 yrs old and was wondering if there is any way that I could get into trucking legally for a profit. I have a truck ( which is under 10K gvw) and access to a trailer that would keep me under 26K gcvw. I have tried countless times to look up information about age requirements for this type of thing but I guess it's just not asked enough to have an answer. Do y'all have any answers?

You need to be 18 to have a commercial driver's license. 21 to drive interstate
rachi Thanks this. -
I don't think you need a CDL for stuff under 26 gvw
-
I believe you do when you're hauling for profit.

Insurance will be the big hurdle.

O/P, I'd repost your question in the hotshot subforum, if I were you.

But if I'm under 26K I don't need a CDL am I right or no?

Be difficult to have any sort of a load that pays and still be under 26k. What state are you in, there may be some farm type of hauling you could do, say hauling a little hay or a few cows with goosenecks locally.G13Tomcat Thanks this.

Well I was mainly thinking about doing hot shot work, like uship or job postings like that. But I'm not even sure if that would be profitable like you just said.G13Tomcat Thanks this.
