The diesel that comes out of the pump is the same, reefer fuel is tax exempt, some places will have red diesel, but it will be a separate pump

That was clear. One of the few times that I wish TTR had a laugh button instead of a thanks button.bryan21384 and Cabinover101 Thank this.

I fueled at the Petro in Racine, WI. They have off road diesel. I didn't pay attention and put the wrong one in. The screen said "you are not authorized for that fuep"! I'm going WT@? Then I realized that it was the dyed diesel. Good thing I didn't use a credit card to pay for fuel.PE_T and bryan21384 Thank this.

I got dipped 3 times in 3 weeks. It’s not dot that does it. Dot flags you over and some gov rep does it. I think irs. That’s the only thing checked. No brake or truck inspection at these checkpoints. I have dash cam of one of my pullovers. Let me check

Worked after high school for an excavator. Two fuel slips, one for the tractor and one for the dozer fuel tank with a rebate of the price in the amount of the road tax for the dozer N stuff....
Farmers used to get their remote fuel tank filled with un-taxed fuel and all had diesel pickups...
Uncle Sugar's revenuers couldn't prove the farmers and others were burning off road fuel in all those pickups so they forced the use of dye. They were visiting farm auctions and checking pickups for dyed fuel and checking tractors on the roadside.
Can't mess with the tax man! -
My trainer would put reefer fuel in the truck tanks...

Yes, it's true. Been checked myself taking calves to the sale barn. We have a neighbor that got busted going into SD with his pickup and horse trailer. Red fuel. Fined. Oops.
So I have an 85 Suburban with a 6.2 diesel that stays at home and it's my beater pasture vehicle. We name our vehicles, so I named my suburban after him!Accidental Trucker, Cabinover101, PE_T and 1 other person Thank this. -
Cabinover101 posted a link explaining how the taxed reefer fuel is reimbursed. I’m based out of TX, and I file my quarterly IFTA online. All the forms I have to fill out are about the truck only, as IFTA is a tax for vehicles. The reefer and the APU do not count.
These are some of the forms I fill out when I file IFTA:
Total IFTA miles
Total non-IFTA miles
Total gallons purchased
For every state I operated in:
Total IFTA miles
Taxable miles
Purchased gallons
These terms are explained in the IFTA manual.Last edited: Feb 11, 2020
