Crossed with tip of hooks pointing down. I got hit with 80 mph winds at 4:00am (possibly a tornado) . The truck did a 180 with the trailers coming around on me. Both trailers loaded with 16000 in the lead and 15000 in the rear. Pintle hook broke on lead pup and the back pup laid over in the ditch. Safety showed me video and it happened so fast. Was not charged with a incident as DPS said it was weather related. So after that experience that is the way I always chain my pups (as I know it works).

Surprised that didn’t get ruled preventable. After all, you didn’t have to come to work that day.

Well,if you Dont have to hook up dollys..if they have yard jockeys handle it thats a plus? They Can and Will get "squirrely" in the wind and ruts. Not really what you want to pull behind you on a treacherous mountain. Youll "get used" to them after a while.Have to stay calm when "you see them moving like a side winder" in your mirrors. Some "real dinosaurs" can actually back them up,by making ever so slight "cuts" back and worth.Takes a while, but have witnessed it.JMOx1Heavy and Theyoungtrucker Thank this.

That and one hell of a fine power steering system to steer that small.
I keep getting tempted to try it, but frankly I wont. There are those who can back em without making a mess of everything. Very few I reckon. -

did you ever pull doubles up here in New England, especially the state of CT, where the highway is "grooved"...??
it don;t take much to get that tail wagging when you make quick moves on the wheel.
the roads here are most likely worse than where you are in SLC. I-95 is a major north/south corridor route, and i'd have to edge my bet we get more traffic, heavy truck traffic, then you do where you are. -
Yes, I have and it's no different than anywhere else

If its the Fed Ex freight hub, that place is nice. Real easy to get in and out of.
Theyoungtrucker Thanks this.
