I have looked seriously at Central Oregon Truck, and I can't say their pay scale is to the driver's benefit if the salary pay scale they advertise is company wide. The more you drive in between the break points for the different tiers of pay, the better it is for the company.

For example, the picture that recruiting sent me shows $1,350 for 2,540 miles. That's $0.53(1) CPM. Not bad! But what if you get 2,539 miles? Then you're dropped down to $1,285, which is a rate of $0.50(6) per mile, netting the company almost 2.5 CPM they don't have to pay you.

Obviously, that's the most extreme example, only missing the next tier by one mile, but it's a reality that could happen. For every mile you drive past a breakpoint, your rate of pay decreases, but COTC's income increases.

Yes, COTC offers free health care. That's phenomenal. But where do you think that money comes from if you're losing out on up to 2.5 CPM? 2.5 CPM on that 2,539 week comes out to $63.47(5) that you drove for but the company made.

But I've seen you talk about 3,000+ mile weeks, so let's look at one of those. According to their pay scale, if you drive 3,125 miles, that puts you on for $1,650, a rate of $0.52(8) CPM, a slight decrease per mile from that 2,540 bracket, but still it's almost $0.53 CPM, which is pretty comparable considering. However, if you drive only 3,124 miles, which again is the extreme, that puts you in the $1,575 bracket, back down to $0.50(4) CPM, a difference of 2.4 CPM, or $74.97.

The recruiters are very nice people. I enjoyed speaking with them. When I talked with them two years ago, they offered me $0.38 CPM with free health care, so I understood that to mean that the money that they didn't pay out was to cover the cost of the health care, and I declined to take the offer. Now that I'm looking into flatbed again, I saw they changed the way their pay works, and it looked much improved on the surface, but digging into it revealed the same issue as before - the company advertising free health care and skimming your checks for the costs. No thank you.

I'm glad that you're happy there, and I hope they take good care of you. I don't agree with their business practices, but they must be doing something right somewhere.

And to the OP of the thread, I worked for Maverick for 4.5 years hauling glass. They're good people, and I was never done wrong. I only left because there was a freeze on leasing and I didn't want to wait. That was a mistake on my part. Their tractors were run of the mill as of 2017, but comfortable enough. They run (maybe ran, IDK if they've changed) EPU systems with smart idle instead of APUs. They're a very hard company to beat. I still brag on them often when I hear someone asking about them. They really left me with a good impression and instilled me with the desire to do the right things for the right reasons.

That and apparently COTC doesn't even allow you to go to the grocery store on PC.

But that means gives AsphaltCowboy more time to spend on the Xbox lol.
