What is the advantage of a greater axle spacing on a tridem? I assume it's more weight per axle? If so, where can I find a breakdown for the spacings on a state by state basis? I currently run a 3 axle trailer with 49" axle spacing but am looking to upgrade and keep the biggest well possible. 54" and 60" axle spacing reduce the well size obviously.

every state will be different, but once you get to 60", you can run 43,500 legally in every state, and 60k permitting.

Any idea where I can find a break down of all states axle spacings? I've been able to permit up to 60k on my tri with 49" spacing from OH to NE and MN to OK without a problem. Would just like to know where I can't go before I find out the hard way.

You can check with each state’s website for the actual answer. - barring that - you can go use a reference like the SCRA permit manual that will list the requirements on a state by state basis. I know that you are likely to not get 60k in OR and WA.

    cke and SAR Thank this.
