    Have encountered a routing problem.

Starting from current location and entering a destination,

    current location:
    Pilot, 385 Abraham’s Rd. Moriarty, NM 87305

    Entered Destination:
    3050N 4800W Corinne, UT. 84307

The app screen has pop up that says unable to calculate route.

If I change the settings options to NOT avoid unpaved roads, it will then calculate a route.

I know for sure that this is not true. All usable routes are paved and good roads.
I run this route almost every week.

Bridgette HAMMER and Admin Thank this.

I’m sure @Bridgette HAMMER will be around in a bit to document this, but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I know: our maps provider, HERE, is freakin weird about some parking lots and driveways. It probably has some part of your entrance/exit at your origin/destination tagged as unpaved and therefore came to the conclusion that there’s no possible route that doesn’t involve a bit of off-roadin’.

One of the many improvements coming in the next update should automatically address this issue by automatically telling HERE to ‘settle down and stop being annoying’ when this kind of thing happens.

Thanks for flagging it, it’s great to have these details so we can document the problem and make sure that the upcoming improvements will solve it.

He runs the route every week and knows how to get there. Without a GPS or an atlas.
By posting here, he is helping get some of the bugs out of this new app.

One other item. I have noted that sometimes the app only offers one route when there are some others. May not be shortest or fastest.

    Example. Delta,CO. To Durango,CO.
    It only routed US-550.
An optional route would be CO26, CO145, US160.
Yes, it is a good bit longer, but when 550 is closed or nasty, this is the next best route.

would the mileage be the driver on this?

Not really. I opened my paper atlas and guess what? There is no street named N 4800 W listed anywhere in it. Looked all over and couldn't find it anywhere. Could be the fact it doesn't show much of any local roads.

That's something that I think the engineering team would need to experiment with to see what the limits are on suggesting alternate routes. But: Hammer takes road closures and traffic slowdowns into account when suggesting a route, so I imagine it would give you that alternate route as the primary route if it's the best option after a a US-550 closure.

    Good questions, keep them coming!

Hey, I think we can agree with CrappieJunkie that a paper atlas is great, it doesn't have to be an either/or thing, and every driver should have a paper atlas in the cab and know how to use it.
Some things paper atlas will always have over an app: never runs out of battery, never crashes, biggest screen, acceptable tissue substitute in dire emergencies.
Some things Hammer has (or coming soon) over an atlas: lane guidance, satellite view, weather radar and alerts of severe weather on your planned route, live traffic cams to view actual road conditions.

It's like arguing whether peanut butter is better than chocolate -- they're both great, and they're better together.

Hey Hey @Espressolane , thank you so much for the details! They really help us figure out exactly what is going on. I'm going to get all of this submitted to our development team so they can do some further investigating on this. We like to make sure any routing issue is a top priority. We really appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
