I agree. What if that driver gets blamed for the damage and fired?
No matter the amount of damage, it wasnt there before. It's not up to anyone other than the owner of said equipment to decide how to handle it. We all have screwed up. It how you handle it. If the owner tells you not to worry, then don't worry about it. Or you pay to fix his equipment that you damaged period
X2. Hate to omit this. But 4 months ago I backed in to a car with my utility truck, and my trailer hitch was in. Not major but I cracked this guys bumper cover. Private property, we exchanged info. I offered for him to take it to a shop of his choice and I will go pay for it. He was fine with that. Told him if I screw you, you have my info. It really was a crack, it faired well. Guy calls me up two weeks later and tells me dont worry about it and didnt want anything. It was his work car and thanked me for handling it that way. It was still a nice looking older car. I knew his name, found his address and sent him 200.00 anyhow. It was only right. I damaged the mans property.
