remove WD-40 and the duct tape from this tool kit. Add one big flat and big Philips screw drivers, a rubber hammer, Russian made car brake fluid, Russian gasoline blowtorch and big prybar.

Old Russian aviators like Soloviev D30 engine. It's like Cummins N14. You can repair it very fast right there on airfield. Back in 80's SU was using that engine on many passenger and cargo planes. The fuel was cheap and nobody would care about fuel economy in SU...

    Yup. Ilyushin IL-62,IL-76,IL-86
Tupolev TU-134 &TU-154 all used this engine. But alas, jet fuel started getting more expensive and noise legislation/regulations have forced manufacturers worldwide (East & West) alike to develop engines that were more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.
Here’s an IL-76 with the Soloviev D-30 engines.

And here’s an IL-76 with the PS-90 engines.

As you can see,the difference in noise (as well as appearance) is dramatic!!
Last time I remembered a four engined jet being fitted with new engines was back in the early 80s when Cammacorp started retrofitting McDonnell Douglas DC-8 Super 60 aircraft and turned them into Super 70s. Replacing the old Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines with CFM International CFM56-2 engines turn out to be a master stroke of genius!

Modifications of IL-76 still in production. PS-90 is now old engine. Soon PD-14 will replace PS-90 . African countries and India ordered many IL-76 last years. Looks like another 10 years it will be in production .

I believe some of our B-52's are still using engines from '62 Getting them running together (8 of them) is quite the chore.

I go back to the days of Friendship Airport before it was razed and rebuilt into KBWI west of Baltimore today, there at the old Friendship you were able to have a outside observation deck second story above the gates and their planes. (Usually Eastern Airlines side under the old Tower)

I can still hear some of the early jets on many planes leaving Baltimore in a hurry. 727's in particular before the emissions and noise laws.

Come to think of it there were many things eliminated since those days in the name of security.

I would tease the US Military to find a shiny Clip on belt to do anything at all. Those seem to be the rage these days.

I did little searching on Russian web resources. So this is Tu-22M3M which has NEW НК-32-02 engines... New НК-32-02 will be installed on all TU-160M2s.
