Today I met a guy who tried to sell me on Roehl's lease purchase program. I told him I was from Minneapolis. He said he was making money off the fuel surcharge when the price of fuel was high, but he's losing money on the fuel surcharge now that it's low. What was that about? Can somebody explain how the fuel surcharge works at Roehl?

Not long after that, he told me Milwaukee was a great place to be an owner operator. I'm just saying.

Depending on the current price of fuel we get paid a fuel surcharge in addition to our base mileage pay, this week it is .25 per loaded mile and .20 per empty mile. It changes everyweek. The higher the cost of fuel the higher the surcharge. The better mpg you can manage the more you can make. So if I can average 7 mpg then that means for every gallon I burn Rohl is paying me 1.75 per gallon and I am paying around .75 per gallon based on fuel being 2.50 per gallon

Okay, so the first dollar or so of fuel isn't covered by the surcharge?

I left my Volvo at Garland and it was having alot of mechanical issues. It sat there for at least 2 weeks and then when I ran by Garland Monday it was gone.

The driver pays for all fuel, then Roehls pays you per mile to haul thier load. Then in addition to the per mile rate Roehl also pays you a fuel surcharge per mile. So for example this load I am on I 1200 miles. Roehl pays me .86 a mile and the fuel surcharge of .25 per mile. So I am making a total of 1.11 per mile. Now I put into my Fuel tanks in Texas 290.00 in fuel. So when you subtract my fuel from my paid miles I will net about 950.00 for this run. Now out of that I pay my truck payment, insurance and any other truck costs. That run will take me 2.5 days so it is important I keep moving.

    RockyWI Thanks this.

Okay, so the guy who told me the decrease in fuel price cost him money really was using fuzzy logic, then.
