    Hi,
I have just purchase 3 axle tractor in OKC need to drive back to NV, OK does not issue temp type 1 way trip permit / registration to non OK residents. OK told me to call NV DMV they referred me to several trip permit companies, who informed me that I need to pay their
$56 / state setup fee for each state in addition to the states own trip and fuel tax permits.
In the past I have bought trucks in NY & PA both states I had been able to buy a 1 way trip / temp reg from DMV neither time I buy any other state permits except 1 time when I travelled through NM I was waved in at the port of entry.

So my question is if am just bobtailing a private not for hire truck do I need to buy each states permit + fuel tax for which I will be travelling through ? Was I just lucky the last 2 times ? :biggrin_2558:

    Thanks, Sean

if you have not for hire on the side of your truck, you do not fall under the dot regs, in doing so, the truck becomes your personal vehical,, no need to stop at weight stations, or carry a log book

    8x8 Thanks this.

Why is that? Do you "know" the regulation or just guessing?
NOT FOR HIRE is just that, but does not relieve the driver of the regulations. First off lets get the IFTA debate put to rest, 3 axle vehicle regardless of weight needs IFTA. You need IFTA.

What exactly are you doing with the truck? You've bought a truck to do what? To sell? To use in your not for hire business?

I think in order to be exempt from the regs. you will have to plate it as an RV. If you have an apportioned plate you will be expected to follow all the regs.

When I bought my truck, I got a temporary tag and drove it 1000 miles to the house. Stopped at every scale that was open and got green lighted. Bought fuel off my debit card.

I think the only thing I paid for out of pocket was that 2090 Fed tax to run the truck on the roads.

    Permits?

So by pulling a horse trailer you are exempt? Is that what you are saying?
