So, I'm in the process of possibly adding one. Before I had it wired into the power supply for the cb and just left the switch on so that when ever the key was on so was it. However its located up where the cb is on my t680 so I was kinda concerned with heat so I'm thinking about throwing it on a toggle switch on the dash since the amp is covered and I cant use the on/off switch. What do yall think?

That should work. You may not need the amp all the time when talking, so the toggle will allow you to turn it on when it is needed.

Won't work with a amp...Your going to need (depending on the size of the amp) anywhere from 8 to 4 gauge wire (or larger) for power going to the battery...I don't know of a toggle switch that can handle that size of wire...

Better idea would be to get a amp that has a remote port on back so you can hook up a remote switch...Remote switches can turn the amp on and off without cutting power to the amp...There are even some cordless remote switches available now that look like car fobs that you use to turn on alarms or start cars with...(you can find the builder on fb)

I hooked it to the factory toggle switch on the dash that isnt used and is working just fine. The stock wire coming out of the amp isnt even the gauge wire you suggested so not sure why it would need to be that size.

This must be one tiny kicker then...

I would still check the amperage rating of the switch to see if it can handle the amperage that amplifire is pulling...should say on the side of the switch what it's rated for.

You could use a relay. Not sure how many amp relay you would need

Yeah, there are amps and then there are amps.

In my case, I've got an Italy RM KL203P that takes 10 amps DC to power. Works on a cig lighter plug and about any auto-store switch on the shelf.

But of course, bigger amps take bigger stuff, depending on the amp rating.

Always follow the ratings for wires, switches and etc.
