Are you still here? In Florida, I mean.

After listening to the Haulin' Assets podcasts today, it got me wondering if I should be considering refers more, rather than dismissing them outright. One of my truck driving instructors drove for them for 15 years, and he had nothing bad to say about them.

I'm going to talk to a recruiter soon to see what's available out of Florida.

Yep still in Florida. At least for roughly the next 60-90 days. Freymiller has a terminal in Ocala. FFE has a terminal in ATL, GA and Winter Haven, FL. Granted bit of a drive. You might also want to look in southern GA, AL...etc. If you plan on staying in the panhandle area

May Trucking has a terminal right here in Pensacola. I haven’t interviewed any refer recruiters yet. I kinda know what they’re going to say though.

I hear you. I am waiting to talk to recruiters till a bit closer to when I will be able to actually start CDL training. Right now I am having to get some bills taken care of, and some funds set aside for the transition to OK for my fiance and I.

I wanted to update this post with the info from the recruiter. Current CPM for new, never had a CDL is 36 CPM. Also they now pay $500 a week while riding with the trainer. Up from the $450. Still need 240 hours before you go solo.

    MericanMade Thanks this.

Reefers are good if you dont mind overnight driving and unloading in the middle of the night.

Stock up on some of that highspeed chicken feed in West Memphis and you’ll be solo in a little over a week o_O

I talked to a road recruiter from Stevens earlier this year. He told me that they’d be training trainers at the same time as new drivers. He recommended trying to find a trainer who seems like a good match for you and asking for him, instead of going with luck of the draw.

He also said I’d be eligible for regional dedicated in 90 days. I tossed out my notes, but I think that meant home every two weeks. Otherwise, OTR was the standard 3-4 weeks out with 1 for 7.

One thing he told me that I didn’t like was instead of being able to park at the flea market a couple miles down the road where dozens of other truckers park, I’d have to park at the Freightliner dealership 30 miles away.
