You are right because the younger generation has no work ethic. They all want to start as a VP with a corner office. It’s not their fault though....we created this by handing out participation ribbons and not rewarding those that excelled for fear of “hurting the feelings” of the slackers when they were young.dunchues, fordconvert, bowhunter67 and 3 others Thank this.

I find it ironic that the guys saying there is no manufacturing are the same ones that cried about the tariff war. You want America to return to its glory days of industrial might? That's going to take tariffs on manufactured goods.

Am I old enough to join the conversation? We've got 2 kids in college, 12 year old in a private school, and a 4 year old at home. My income which is always right at 60k taxable, provides very well for my family. We live in a nice clean city with low crime and good public schools.fordconvert, kemosabi49, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this.

As a society we have trained everyone to think that if you’re going to make any money and have anything in life that you need a four year college degree........ what is forgotten is the debt that comes along with that degree.
Skilled trades in manufacturing is starting to make a come back as more and more people realize you don’t have to get a four year degree to make something of yourself and have things in life.Deere hunter, Swine hauler, bowhunter67 and 6 others Thank this. -

There are plenty of places you can live in the US as a single person making less than $50k per year. Heck there are a lot of places you can live as a couple making that amount. It just takes a discipline that most people don't have these days. That means zero debt, no credit cards, payments on toys like a boat or new car, and pay off the house asap. I live in northern California which is one of the top 5 most expensive places to live in the US, and my wife and I live in a paid off home, have a nice nest egg in the bank, and our adjusted gross income last year was $45k.
I paid cash for a new truck (T680) and trailer (Utility reefer), we have no debt, and every dime in profit I made with the truck went back into the company. My wife has never worked in 30 years of marriage, and we raised 3 kids who are out on their own. Granted, I was a high wage earner until 12 years ago and saved a lot, but we're living cheap now and when we're ready to leave California, we can go wherever we want.
My youngest daughter (22) didn't go to college and works at the local animal shelter making $22 per hour. While she still lived with us, she saved over $20k and paid cash for a nice used car, and now shares a house with her best friend. Last week we set her up with some mutual funds that get auto deducted from her paychecks. My oldest daughter (27) worked at the same animal shelter and saved over $20k too, and her and her husband moved to southern Oregon a couple years ago, bought a house, and are expecting their first child in August. Their only debt is a small mortgage, and he works for the city making good money.
It ain't rocket science.Swine hauler, lynchy, BoostedTeg and 3 others Thank this. -
Kids have dreams, and society convinces them that they can't accomplish those dreams without a college education. I wanted to be an archaeologist. Spent 4 years in college then obtained my masters after that while I worked. Somewhere along the way I figured out that while I loved archaeology, I could make a ton more money in the insurance industry and that's what I did for 30 years. When my 3 kids were hesitant on going to college, I encouraged them to go and we would pay for it, but they all decided to work instead, much to the dismay of my wife who is old school. While none of them will be doctors or lawyers, they're happy and making good livings. They aren't straddled with huge monthly bills for student loans.Deere hunter, Swine hauler, Tropsnart and 2 others Thank this.
