I bought a small fridge from walmart. Lot better than having a plug in cooler.

I haven't tried the dorm fridge, I have been in trucks with 12 volt refrigerator, freezers, they don't draw good batteries down like the Coleman and Igloo versions, or the knockoff truck stop brands.

They would take less power than an inverter to house current fridge, but the cost is higher.

They come to be built in and also, like an ice chest. Look on the net for Engel, Isotherm, and maybe others. You are talking several hundred dollars for these units.

    pdeitrick Thanks this.

I would have to go look. I will post a pic. I took it out as my truck is getting over hauled. Should be done tomorrow. I guess it to be about 3 foot x 3 foot. Has a small freezer. They had 3 sizes. I guess you would call them a dorm fridge. I got the medium sized one. I got mine for about 50 or 60 bucks.

We have the magic chef brand, we got it at Home Depot. It replace mine, looks like they only last for about 4-6 mo. They are like the dorm type.
Been driving for about 2 yrs and this is the 3rd one we had. We pay 150.00 and still running i think the more you pay the longer they last.I It think all the bouncing damages them.

As related to typical demensions available in Swift trucks (Volvos, mostly, right?), what kind of space will I have for a fridge? The one I have now is quiet large at about (guestimate) 3' tall x 2' wide x 2' deep.

Don`t know about Volvo`s or fridges but a decent alternative is one of the Walmart electric Coleman coolers....keeps all my food cold and even freezes some liquids that are close to the refrigeration unit inside. Cheap to...only about $90.

Well, considering I already have the mini-fridge, I'd rather use that first than pay $90. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to wait the entire trainer period + my first month out before having something to keep the drinks and lunch meats cold because I had to wait to get the truck in my own drive way to see if it fits. If I could predetermine that it won't fit, then I'll know that it's okay to go ahead and get the above $90 cooler right off the bat and not have to wait the entire first month to have cooling capabilities.

You might want to wait & see if they will allow you to install a power inverter to run your mini fridge... I'm not sure about Swift since I have never nor will I ever have the desire to drive for them. A lot of carriers don't allow inverters... That is why the coleman cooler is a handy item.... Plugs directly into the cigarette lighter
