run a fuel line from the primary filter head (on the frame rail) to the fuel tank , just stick it in the filler neck, and take it for a test...
sounds like you need a fuel shut down solenoid, make sure when you take it apart that you keep all the parts in order for reassembly....fixed one...
fuel is probably gelled. the American biodiesel causes us issues up here in the great white north (CANADA)....

The button goes grey usually due to the vehicle being in motion so that the driver cannot use that function while driving,,it's a safety issue.......
