I always tried to stay calm before a move, but sometimes it wasn't that easy...waiting on permits, waiting for inspectors to sign off on a shipment or listening to escorts complain about what we're waiting for...

Here I thought you were spying on me the last two days @TripleSix Been sitting here waiting to load a 20' wide since 7:00am yesterday morning (scheduled loading time) and I'm the one asking that question. Called Thursday PM to confirm 07:00 Friday. Yes they say, will be ready. Arrive at 06:55, exactly when I said I'd be at the door and guess what, not only not ready, not even finished being manufactured. So new plan, 07:00 this morning. Arrive at door at 6:55, load is done and waiting to be loaded in shipping fixture so new plan, 09:00. 09:30, well driver, there's a problem we found, will be 15:00. 16:30 now and the latest, 21:00!

So I splain, 21:00 is 00:18 AFTER sunset. I get a blank, deer in the headlights stare. So I splain some more with my crayons (8 pack, too many colors confuse the delusional suit types) and Big Chief tablet that they can in fact set the load on my trailer any hour of the day or night they choose, HOWEVER, if the big orange ball isn't "that" far above that line over there, it's not leaving this little fenced in area. More deer in the headlights looks, mumbling and walking away. They're going to have to punch all that data into their puter and have an engineer or two analyze the results.

So I ask Six, do you think we'll be loading today?

Isn’t it amusing when you try to explain to someone with a buttload of college degrees what’s wrong with their plan? From you getting the truck in, or getting a big load out of a narrow door.

That would be EXACTLY why I still carry an 8 pack of crayons and Big Chief tablet. They want to look at me like that's my level of education and understanding so I make sure I don't disappoint them when I go to explain that their college educated plans will not work. When that fails, which it often does, I give them the bosses number.

My favorite is when our customer asks me to run a team for my big trailer. Every time it takes 30 emails back and forth to get it through their heads.

Or the lead guy at the job site who wanted to know what the latest they had to get me loaded by to leave today.

"Well let's see sunset is about 7PM so get me out the gate by 3PM and I'll leave today."

    "Why so much time?"

"Because we're in Philadelphia and it's 150 miles to the first safe place that I know 100% I can fit at 100ft long."

"My phone says it's only 2:15 from here to there."

" Yeah and how exactly am I supposed to do 70mph up and down curvy PA back roads at 160K lbs?"

    "Oh."

"Also there's no way it's loaded in 3 hours. I'm not even in the door yet and then you have to drop the piece 3 stories in a narrow crane Bay. Then once we get the placement right you have to shrink wrap it on the trailer. Wrapping takes at least 3-4 hours alone. Then secure and tarp. Then the fun part, pull it outside and figure out how to attache the booster with the trailer loaded."

    "We'll see if we can"

    "Sure"

As I had already told the customer back home and my escort that we aren't leaving until the morning. Those guys were so sure they were getting me out that day.

Guess what we finished everything at 11PM and I left it there to bobtail to a truck stop in Maryland. Left the next morning like planned from the beginning.
