    He wants a "win" in the column for the manual because the MAJORITY are going to autos. Why the heck should anyone care what the 'majority' like? If everyone around you is a fat and effeminate sidewalk sissy, why on earth should you be concerned with what they like or dislike? Be grateful all of you who are not fat and effeminate sidewalk sissy'ish that you do not fit that profile.

    Always had a manual. For 38 years I drove a 5 x4 13 speed UNDER DRIVE a13 speed OVER DRIVE a 9 & a 10 speed a 15 speed overdrive a d the Mack duplex and triples and quadrupled and the infamous 5 speed. Last one I owned was an sst14 Spicer. That's an air splitter with 4 positions and the same 5 holes. Similar to the 5 x 4 two sticks. You need to be good on this tranny too.i had over 1 million 300k miles on that tranny It's not for beginners. The original clutch lasted almost 950k miles.
    But since selling that truck and now being a co. Hand, I'm loving my autoshift. It's slower to accelerate, not good for off camber bent hard backin, you need to hit the limiter button in some conditions, they need service more than ma used do and it acts up now and then but hell, I dig the resume button. I always leave it in auto. The cruiser will resume as slow as 15mph. I'm spoiled rotten now after 4 years on autoshift. I cant drive without my auto shift and cruise control now. Hardest thing to get used to was where to put my rt. Hand. Thought about getting a plunger to hold on to but with the stick gone there's more room to skooch around.

    No it's not. But those tractors in the early 90's had so much power and such gearing etc that mountains don't matter upgrade. Milesburg, Ive taken it at 80,000 in the left lane at 85 constant all the way up summit is crossed at 62 or so. No more 9 hours to cross PA, you do it in 3.

    Im one of the reasons the industry did what they did with the governor and so forth.

    Thankfully those days are gone forever, ive gone the other way much more stable and professional in my last years.

    Never understood why truck drivers want to get to 60 quicker. The whole point in driving a truck is to not come to a full stop as often as possible, and take your sweet-butt time getting to highway speed (to maintain fuel economy).

    But hey, what do I know? I'm just an old school trucker stuck in a new school body.

    Yea buddy, remember the good old days. Overnight delivery from Miami to hunts point.
    17 hours from Miami to Hanover brands. Less than 2 days from Mars Hill Maine to Miami.
    Hooking up and running the monfort lane in a fine convoy for hundreds of miles. I miss the camaraderie and I miss the big money but it's so much easier now and less stressful. Since being a co. Hand now. I did the part about not having to worry about stuff. If I brake down now... send in s brake down and watch tv. I also fell inlove with my ELD & the auto shift and the cruise controll. Like I say it's not trucking now. It's campin!

    I subscribe to that old adage, "Believe nothing what you hear and only half of what you see".

    These automated transmission builders are putting out literature by the forestful and videos by the mega terabyte trying to sell us this latest snakeoil cure for that which has ailed us for 70 years. On top of that they purposely engineered in early transmission/engine failures to create more and more warranty work for themselves. Mark my words, in a couple years the dealerships will be flooded with 2010-2016 MY AMT trucks being towed in for repairs.

    Full disclosure I do drive one but fro me I drive it like I drive any truck, properly. I do not buy the BS they save fuel so are therefore more profitable. To me Uptime is the most important thing that makes the money. I may not save as much fuel as the next driver but I am wagering that when he is in the shop multiple times spending all his fuel savings on engine repairs, I will still be motoring down the road earning revenue as a result of driving the truck the proper way.

    We had economy back in the day. 4 to 5mpg was it. 6 was great. But fuel was .45 a gallon the . Most O.O. would "progressive shift" i did. Never used the clutch sept to start up. The new auto shifts are set up the way we used to run. I love the auto shift but they sure require maintenance. Today's stuff really requires a high maintenance a d service back up. We didn't brake doen back then like we do today.

    He'll yea bro. All this new stuff does IS brake down!
    It's all the tech and smog #### that sucks. They have the trucks now so wired up,I call them idiot trucks now. If they would pay more to keep the better drivers they could relax this safety B.S.
    IT'S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH SAFETY IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROLL.
