have an 03 w900 w/ the terrible smart wheel. Has anyone done a smart wheel delete to put a aftermarket wheel on? the factory wheel is worn out. i can get an aftermarket wheel and hub for around 300... i dont feel like spending 600+ on a aftermarket smart wheel compatible wheel. they are ugly anyway. it would be nice to convert to switches on the dash. if anyone has done it please shine some insight. can switches be installed or has anyone even mounted the factory wheel buttons on the dash somewhere?

...i did on my 99 kw w900 ...liked convenience of smart wheel much more
-
That’s Alot of work to save $300
Probably get a used smart wheel from a junkyard for less -
I’m looking to do the same. I hate the smart wheel. Dealers here can not get replacement switches for wheel.
-
Well what did it involve? Did you do switches? Can I use regular switches or need push buttons?
-
It’s not my truck. Company owned. Convincing the boss on 300 is easier then 600. Also the buttons are starting to go. Sometimes you have to push a few times to get them to work.

Reg switches on the dash ...sold the truck ....that was 7 years ago and i had smart steering wheel stopped working and brought it to Mack dealer ( closest to me ) and he offered me this solution instead of chasing electrical gremlins
-
That literally told us nothing. But alright

What you wanted to know ?!
There are wires going through smart box behind the dash to the steering wheel . Sort them out and connect to regular toggle switches -
That’s what we needed to know. But where’s diagram of wires? Color coded? The box is like a small computer that talks to the ecm. Not sure if it’s that easy to just cut and splice
