talkin' to a fellow in CO are ya?

No he can't hide it and save your existing engine warranty. What he's going to use is a MXS NXS 625 HP file that was originally written by a fellow named Jerad. I'm not going to get into the details of that whole mess between those two individuals

The problems with these engines isn't the file.........tune or whatever you'd like to call it. The problem is low liner protrusion. Low liner protrusion from CAT causes head gasket failures, not horsepower. Add horsepower and an engine with low liner protrusion will cause the block to fret under the liner flange this causes the liner to sink into the block deck surface. Once the liner drops more than .005" compared to the liner next to it, the head gasket says odious. Liner protrusion is what keeps the liners from moving in the block, if it's low from the factory they shift and fret the block then they drop even lower. High boost, high horsepower advanced timing don't cause this. Usually advanced timing that is too far advanced bends rods and wears rod bearings out fast. If it would blow head gaskets then the head bolts would have to stretch if the liner protrusion is correct and there is no fretting on the block deck surface. I've seen CAT engines build tremendous amounts of power without doing this first. I've seen many of these supposed blown head gaskets that needed the blocks counter bored and the liners shimmed to spec to fix the blown head gasket problems............the head gasket failed because of a sunken liner into the block deck surface. I've only heard of a few that strecth the head bolts.........all of them had PDI's Big Boss 1000 Hp Competition tunes in Acert's that the owners took the liberty of blocking the wastegate closed while sled pulling. The boost pressure on one truck went above 110 psi before the head bolts strecthed and the head gasket failed. All that needed to be done was change the head bolts and headgasket to fix it afterwards, NO BLOCK FRETTING OR SUNKEN LINER.

I'm a dealer for PDI and have sold many tunes. I'd rather have the people that have used PDI's product tell you their results of the product. I don't want you to think I'm trying to sell you anything. As J stated there is more than one tune for a stage 1 application, but you'll be limited by your warranty.

Mr. Haney, I would like to get more info from you. I want my engine to run as efficiently and as powerful as my 3406. I'm not sure this is possible but I've heard you are the man to tell me. I'm not looking for huge power, I wanna keep my dependability.

On acerts the ecm does not turn the fan on till 218. The guage and temp sender for the computer are not in the same location so there can be some differance in what you see and the computer sees.

As for the PDI tune I have one and I love it!!!!

I never really liked my '05 accert and considered the 3406E in my '98 WS to be 10 times the engine. Then I had "Mr Haney" flash the ecm for my C15 with the middle (there are 3 levels) stage 1 tune. Now I LOVE my accert. Last week I was climbing a local hill (8% for 2 miles) that I climb on occasion and this time I was 10 tonne (22,000 lbs) heavier than usual. I climbed the hill at the same speed (25mph) and same gear as I used to 10 tonnes lighter with the stock 475 configuration and I've yet to get the pyro to go past 850* (and I've tried).

I gotta say I'm extremely happy I stumbled across this site when I was doing research on my acert. I appreciate the swift replies and the broad range of knowledge on here. Thanks again.
