Sometimes it's purely an oversight or accident, we are to weigh out, but I don't unless it's looks close to being over on an axle group.

We run captive, so usually discrepancies and damage are adjusted after, and as it happens, shipping neglected to load a pallet lately, the receiver called the shipper, and I got a
signed bol noting the shortage, no muss and no fuss, but the receiver is often a real time waster, too, so there is that.

Dealing with brokers is a rarity for me, anymore, and I don't miss it much.

I really fancy getting IR cameras inside the trailer in every upper corner. Especially with reefer loads they would come handy. They could also mitigate a missing seal scenario, simply by showing that doors were never open and the cargo remained untouched during transit. I imagine that it should be relatively inexpensive and not too hard to implement. I am actually surprised it so much unheard of yet. Think about all the mishandling by forklift operators and how they mistreat your trailer sometimes, damaging the floor, walls and such.

Every Schneider trailer I looked at a couple of weeks ago had a camera mounted the front near the roof. I think it's a good idea too just like dash/side mounted cameras.

I am sure they implemented that to reduce the rate of the cargo theft. With all the drop yard transfers and multiple swaps they must have had a big issue with finding thieves.

I have a few trailers that are used for high value and they have cameras and tracking device. The cameras are both in the trailer and a few outside, one at eye level to see who is messing with the trailer.

Believe me we have sent videos to a few shippers where there was pilfering of products off the truck.

I think for the investment, all trailers should have cameras.

    TallJoe and pmdriver Thank this.

Just wonder how a camera would show a clear picture on those -10 degree loads and fogging up, then you can have a gate as they enter the trailer with a scanning device recording weight, product and temp of each pallet being loaded.

But you know it’s not as cut and dry as that.

I’ve been to customers who refuse to let you on the doc and refuse to let you sign “slc”. In fact they write on the bol “driver responsible for pcs count”.

Fine don’t sign it. I get it and you’re 100% right nobody should sign it! Now tell the mortgage company why you can’t make this months mortgage payment. Explain to the wife why her boyfriend has to move out because your on your way home.

Some companys will have your back as a driver. Most do not.

Irregardless this shipment was 1 full pallet short. They took a pic at the shipper. If a skid came off after the pic, the driver should have called his company, who should have called the Op, who should have dealt with it before the truck ever pulled out of the dock!!!

This should have never made it as far as the receiver. The driver and company F’d up big time. It’s 100% on them. As the broker you have to pay them their full rate as per your contract. This is exactly why we all carry cargo insurance. You file a claim and will get your check. If you short the payment due you are nothing less than pond scum and i could wear the profanity blocker thing out describing you.

Picked this up last Friday. Delivered on Saturday morning. Trailer was 1/2 unloaded and the reciever ( not the fork lift driver) says your missing 4 pieces. “Your missing 1-b&c and 3-d&e”............

E3E2F201-8361-4DD7-B7C5-88D8E164C039.jpeg About a 1/2 hour later he realizes it was the skid on the back and the fork driver took it off before he started checking.

Guy was all serious when he thought it was my fault..... didn’t want to talk anymore once he realized his mistake. Just yelled at me to “get the hell out of his dock!!!!!”

    FPH!!!

Some how just some how i have a sneaking suspicion that this driver was collecting his dues cause a " pallet " don't go growing legs and walking off on its own does it? Was it by any chance Tobacco or Alcohol? That would always be tempting and also very easy to sell under the table wink wink nudge nudge. Was a seal placed on the locking arms of the trailer ? Was the seal still intact at delivery point.?

I hauled a load of dock floats to a dock manufacturer. I had three of four guys unloading the floats and putting them in a half a dozen different spots in their yard. I'd been there before and never had a problem. Trailer was three quarters unloaded when the new shipping manager came out to check in the load. She stood there with one of the forklift operators while he was pointing to different locations in the yard. She walked over to me and said I was short. Told her I couldn't build a garage out of them and maybe they should try again but to count all of the stacks. They had put them in so many locations they forgot about three of them, which I pointed out to her. Next time I went there they couldn't remove any floats from my trailer until she was ready to count them as they came off.
