Were I, you, I would have those bearings out, cleaned, and be taking a close look at them for signs of failure. Chances are that they are breaking down, probably looking dull and matte gray on the weight bearing surfaces, rather than bright shiny chrome in appearance.

If it were a brake adjustment or other brake related issue, the drum temp. would be a clear indicator in that area- outer circumference of the drum.

It is the older style grease-packed hub (1998 Monon dry van). No window, no oil plug... Hub temp reached 150* today (compared to 100ish for the others) with an empty trailer! Guess I'll play Sacramento-area trailer shop roulette on Monday -- still haven't found a good mechanic in the area...

Seriously, 10-15 degrees? I checked the tires on my truck after a drive, one steer was 116, the other was 120. Should I be concerned? They were both the same pressure cold when I checked them...

I think these hubs are none serviceable, the cost for the hub assembly is over 1000 bucks. I think the spindle is different so you can't put the other hub on it. From what I've seen you are about to fix it on on the shoulder somewhere. Good luck

Some of those non-serviceable hubs can be replaced under warranty. It doesn't matter the age. If that's the case, they will send you brand new axles complete with wheel ends. Good lunck!

Back from shop #2 -- this one a brake, tire & alignment specialist. They took it apart, found nothing wrong, threw in new seals and repacked new grease. Hub still 40* hotter after a 15 mile deadhead.

Is it possible that airbag is putting more pressure so that wheel has more weight on it? The trailer was aligned a month ago and tracks straight...
