You will be hard pressed to find a company that hires student drivers and does NOT operate at some point during your training as a team. That is how the income is generated to pay the trainer / mentor the money to train you. The good news is that it doesn't last that long.

To answer your question...Yes, at the beginning it was difficult to fall asleep while the truck was moving. But eventually fatigue took its toll and I fell asleep. My trainer was a very smooth driver and I was able to stay asleep most of the time he was driving.

This is why I'm glad my hubby has enough experience to run for a smaller outfit . . . to low for this time of the year . . . I wouldn't go back on the road for that either.

If you notice I said current YTD money...

Actually it is pretty good for a first year driver. People reading this thread for comments typically don't have the experience that your husband has. I believe that the numbers say that it is enough to be on the road. Using following calculations to make a decision (for a new driver):

Pay week number is week 41.

    29,877.61 divided by 41 equals : $728.72 weekly average.

Multiply weekly average amount by 52 weeks: $37, 893.44 in first year earnings.

I personally don't believe that is too shabby. 2nd year will be much better. The difference in my mileage pay from start to 1st year is $.09 / mile. Should bring me to around $43k ++ in 2nd year earnings.

For a first year driver, no, it's not bad money at all. Hubby is on track for close to $50K this year, and would be closer to that had I not had surgery 6 weeks ago . . . The advantages of small company and percentage . . .

Absolutely....% would always be my #1 choice. Typically that is not an option to newer drivers.

What was the hardest part about getting through training? How hard was it to parallel park since I know Swift makes you parallel park the truck to pass their class, that part would seem to be really hard to me.

In one year I have pp about 3 times. It isn't that hard once you learn how to control your trailer.

I don't understand why Swift makes you parallel park to pass their test, but most companies don't. Seems puzzling.
