Sorry you misunderstood my response. Your time in SCHOOL IS 3 students to an instructor. That is the training I am speaking of. Your time with a MENTOR ONCE YOU ARE HIRED is 1 on 1.
No the trucks do not automatically shut down. By the Hours of Service rules YOU ARE TO SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN before you run out of hours. If you don't you are in violation. THEY NEVER .... NEVER....shut down the truck. You need to understand the phrase "I was shut down". It means the company / DOT prohibits you from driving with the threat of fine / violation / termination. Nobody actually makes the truck stop running. You will be required to double clutch while in SCHOOL. Your mentor will tell you whether or not you can "float" the gears on his/her truck. Once you get your own truck assigned to you...it's up to you.
