I am going to float applications to roughly 30 companies and see what comes of it. If those 2 companies are my options, then those will be my options.
To answer your question, I have been doing warehouse work and traveling internationally. After TransAm just didn't work out, I had no options left. Companies told me that the accident was just too recent. I will tell you that I don't buy into the idea that a person with an older CDL and no experience has options totally dried up. There are people on this forum who have shared experiences of earning a CDL and getting a job with no experience years after earning that CDL. I am not saying that I will have the same opportunities available as someone who has just completed school. I just don't believe that my options out 300,000 carriers nationwide will be just 2 of them. Anyway, thank you for the motivation.

You can find work. With an accident and a suspect background, you can't necessarily to afford to be picky. The main thing is, let's get you working somewhere so you can build on your experience. Over time, both of those will be rendered a non factor, then you can look for something better.

I wouldn't be upset at having to go to any mega carrier that gets trashed on forums. I know that the majority of what is posted online about any company is negative because generally speaking, people who have a positive experience with something don't take the time to post a review or a comment on a message board/forum. Any company has the potential to be terrible for someone who doesn't go in with the right attitude. I have a wife and a child on the way, so I don't have the luxury of going in with an entitled attitude. For the sake of my new family, I have to keep positive and make the best of any opportunity, no matter what industry it is in. The only thing that I will refuse to do is forced team driving (and not referring to going out with a trainer).

Thank you. That's exactly right. Even if I do find myself at a company that many look at with disdain, I could end up liking something about the company and the people that makes me want to stay. I work hard at every job. People take notice of my drive to do the best that I can, which will stand out wherever I go. I will make mistakes, but I will also impress with my work ethic. I always do. Once the positive relationships are able to be established, the job will seem just a little bit easier and the difficult moments not quite as trying. I don't need a bunch of companies from which to choose. I just need one company to give me a shot.

CR England, Covenant, and possibly CRST all do forced team driving. If I team, it will be because my wife decides to get her CDL, and I am with a company that will hire her with the idea that she will eventually be my teammate.

You're doing your research and you have a plan, that's a good thing. All I'm saying is if you do start to seriously consider CRST you may want to give some extra scrutiny to them, especially regarding money, training, and contractual obligations.

Well, already have my CDL, so no concerns of contractual obligation. I have looked further into CRST and they do forced teaming for drivers without experience. So, CRST is out. I have a list of about 12 companies where I have put in my application and they are willing to discuss it over the phone once I am back in the US.
