Well, with 2,686 views and 90 replies on this thread, I must say that I may have titled this thread wrong.
At the time, I knew my buddy had bought a 10-meter radio to talk on the cb bands, which come to find out is the 11-meter bands.
Never had a clue the thread would turn out like this.
Kind of had a feeling that what he had bought would be illegal because of the power rating, but had no idea what he really had and what it could really do. (Like get you locked up)
That's why we came here, to ask questions and figure out what he really had.
With the thought of "illegal", questions came to mind, so here we are, making sure he might steer clear of such type actions.
Boy, he really has a new outlook on any switch or dial he turns when in use.
Thanks to all who have given him a new path to follow. He's already asking me to dig up the info needed to get the license and be "legal" to use this beast of machine.
Any further comments and experiences are welcome.........heck, even the opinions!
Bring them on!
Merry Be-lated Christmas and a Happy New Years to come for all!

Well as the hams will point out. There is no liscense he can get to legally operate a 10 meter radio on the 11 meter band. The reason being is it has too much output power to legally be operated on the 11 meter band.
Just tell your buddy to not worry about it if he sticks to the regular CB 40 (11 meter).
The chances of him being busted for having the power he has is very slim. Now if he was pushing over 500 watts then he might draw some attention but he is not.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Merry Christmas from Iraq. I would like to take this time to mention that the "send a soldier some porn" program is still around and in need of people to donate to it. Please feel free to either purchase or copy any legitimate porn (girls over 18 and performing willingly) and put it in a care package and send it on to some G.I. in Iraq or Afghanistan. Believe me, he'll appreciate that much more than some box of candy or a roll of toilet paper.
Of course any of you ladies wanting to be looked at can send a photo of themselves to my email address and, as usual, with women it's clothing optional. So if you want to bring a smile to this soldiers face it's a cheap as a digital photograph.......
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years people

Hi, I personally have been going to the same radio shop in Denver exclusively for the last 7-8 years. I am not too familiar with your neck of the woods but if it were me, I would check around locally and find a good shop that I could trust. Ask some of the local drivers around you. I would never mail order anything but thats just me. I would rather deal face to face with the people I am buying from. Also if you have a problem, its much easier to carry the radio in and have it fixed compared to boxing it up and mailing it off someplace. The other thing is if you buy a 10m radio over the internet and carry it in to a shop to have it converted, they might wonder why you didnt buy it from them and might not pay attention to details like you would want them to. In my experience, once you have established a relationship with a good tech, they seem to go out of their way to do a good job for you. I have sent many of my truck driving friends to the guy I use and he knows it. I have gotten several good deals on radios and upgrades from him. I tend to swap radios around a lot. I like the Connex radios. They are tough and riding around in a truck won't hurt them. They work good and are dependable. I have had a bunch of different cb radios over the years. Right now I have a Connex 4600 turbo. I bought it at the spur of the moment when my Cobra 200 quit working but I got a good deal from my radio doctor. I kept the Cobra 200 for a spare after he fixed it but I probably will never need it.K7DFA Thanks this.

Ok here is what the FCC had to say .... Use of radios
CIMS00003150235 - Police use of non police radios
You are receiving this email in response to your inquiry to the FCC.
Dear Consumer,
Each radio is licensed under that specific radio service. That person (s) would need a license in that service.
SO no matter WHO or what service you need the license to use it ...
POLICE ARE NOT EXSEMPT .....K7DFA Thanks this.
