Yeah it's slow compared to a 13. What i always did was bump the shift lever out and back in on those upshift splits. Shifts much quicker that way.

Some of them were a bit finicky in that no two seemed to shift the same(honestly I could probably say the same about any tranny) but if you drove one all the time it "kinda" became part of you.
The one that I had the most miles on had a sweet spot as far as gear engagement, if you just DROVE it, it was a bit clunky and slow, but it you "burped it" at just the right time it would slide into gear as smooth as could be, and a lot quicker also, probably close to bumping it in and out of gear.
But a lot of guys would just get in them and foot to the floor waiting on the tranny, in other words, they needed a "driver mod"! Just my observations.rollin coal Thanks this. -
I have driven 9speeds split 10s straight 10s super 10s 13s and 18 hated split 10s and 9 speeds. Straight 10s are ok supers not to bad just slow on take off and both straight and super just seem to have to big of a gap between 9th and 10th. Two kinds of 13 speeds in volvos ( that i have driven) one is the shifts normaly (similar to a super 10 just with a smaller gaps on high end) the other (Volvo trans)shifts like a car clutch EVERY shift but can skip. Did mine 2 4 6 8 9 10 11 12 13 most loaded runs. Love the low end and the extra gears at the top end in 18s so by far my favorite.
All in all I perfer straight 10s on a long highway runs but the super is nice in city's. That though is just my personal opinion.
