The other day one of my drivers got a ticket because he did run a log book, Since in general we run local and use time cards. This particular load was 148 air miles (according to the officer), but the officer said since this is a commercial truck it is only a 100 mile exemption, not a 150 mile exemption. Can someone point me in the right direction of where to find this regulations.

Hours of Service: The 100/150 Air Mile Exemptions
snip
Who Can Utilize the 100/150 Air Mile Exemption?
The 100 air mile exemption is for CDL drivers who:
- Operate within 100 air miles
- Go off duty within 12 hours
- Report back to the same work location every day
- Have at least 10 consecutive hours off before starting their next on-duty period
- Operate within 150 air miles
- Do not drive through any state that requires a CDL for the type of vehicle being driven
- Report back to the same work location every day
- Do not drive after the 14th hour of coming on duty in a period of seven consecutive days
- Do not drive after the 16th hour of coming on duty in a period of two consecutive day
End snip.
There was a thread yesterday here on TTR about a trucker logging at 150th mile delivering agricultural to market 900 miles away. He can do this only if he is returning directly back to the starting point. If the truck went anywhere else, then normal rules apply.Oldironfan and tscottme Thank this. -
If you are not Agriculture, then you fall under the 100 mile rule.

-
my bad. i mixed two regs
farm permit is 150 miles
rods are for over 8 days in a 30 day period.Oldironfan, MACK E-6 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
This is our exemption. We go as far as 160 miles. Well within the 150 mile radius. And we have cdl.
-
Anything past the 150 you will have to log.... once back in the 150 you run exempt.
-
We don't exceed 150 mile radius. Only miles.
-
So if you stay within the 150 mile radius no matter how many miles past 150 you are exempt... once you go beyond in a straight line 150 miles then yes you have to log..only the miles beyond the 150 miles. once inside the 150 mile radius you go exempt again on logs..
Just wanted to clarify your prior post.
